I was wondering about people’s opinions on [name_f]Margot[/name_f] vs [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. I’ve always thought that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] was the more familiar and traditional spelling (in spite of the potential for people to mistakenly pronounce the t). But with Despicable Me being so popular with its little [name_f]Margo[/name_f] [name_m]Gru[/name_m] and with the Paper Towns movie with its main character [name_f]Margo[/name_f] [name_m]Roth[/name_m] Spiegleman coming out soon, do you think that the [name_f]Margo[/name_f] spelling could become the more familiar and common spelling of the name? And possibly also more popular spelling?
I prefer the simplicity of [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. I just don’t like the T at the end. [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is a lovely name!
I prefer the [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. It looks more complete and it’s the way I’m most familiar with seeing. Although, with character’s being named “[name_f]Margo[/name_f]” I could see this spelling becoming more familiar. I think both spellings will always seem normal and familiar though.
I had a friend named [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and she always hated the -t at the end. She said she hated how people mispronounce and misspell her name. She wishes her parents had spelled it [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]. Because of this, I prefer the simpler [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. Pronunciation is important to me, and that factors in my decision.
If I used the name [name_f]Margot[/name_f]/[name_f]Margo[/name_f], I would probably use the more traditional [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. However, I think [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is far cuter.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is my preference from the two, but my absolute favourite is [name_f]Margaux[/name_f].
