Margot - Margo - Margaret (nn Margo)

What name do you prefer as a first name?

[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] (with nickname “[name]Margo[/name]”)

Why I’m conflicted:

[name]Margot[/name] : [name]Love[/name] the classic spelling but worry about the silent “t” tormenting a child. As much as I love it I have to admit that it does look like “Maggot” if you glance at it. [name]Love[/name] that it goes well with our son’s name “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]”

[name]Margo[/name] : [name]Love[/name] the “o” ending but worry it’s a bit too modern and not classic enough to match up with “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]”. [name]Love[/name] that no one will ever pronounce this wrong. Worry about it seeming like we ‘chopped’ off a letter of a very classic name.

[name]Margaret[/name] : [name]Love[/name] that it will go with “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]” but don’t like the name [name]Margaret[/name] as much as “[name]Margo/name” and we would basically just pick this as the proper name as always go by the nickname “[name]Margo[/name]” anyway…we would spell the nickname without the “T” as it’s more casual as a nickname.

Thank you!

With [name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name], I would choose [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] seems almost too casual as a first name next to the more formal [name]Henry[/name]. [name]Margaret[/name] sounds and looks like the “natural” sister for a [name]Henry[/name]. I prefer the French spelling [name]Margot[/name] myself.

I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] to [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name]. I think [name]Margaret[/name] is lovely, and you have the option of a fun/spunky nn with [name]Margot[/name]! It is kind of the best of both worlds.

I personally prefer [name]Marguerite[/name] to [name]Margaret[/name], and [name]Margaux[/name] to [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name].

I think I like [name]Margaret[/name], mainly because it gives her other options later on.
Like [name]Meg[/name].
I do like [name]Margot[/name] though–this spelling. The -o ending feels unfinished.

I like [name]Margot[/name] as-is. It’s sophisticated and sleek.

[name]Margaux[/name] is very faux.

I’m usually one to advocate using the full name, but I think [name]Margot[/name] is a case that stands alone very well. I think I like [name]Margot[/name] best for you (not a fan of [name]Margo[/name] without the t).

I am also currently considering using the name [name]Margo/name for my daughter and I have to say I’m conflicted about the spelling. I would love to use the classic spelling with the T, but have heard too many times that it looks like maggot or reminds people of escargot. And there are just too many people who I think would pronounce it [name]Mar[/name]-gott. So I too am worried about that T! So I think for teasing sake or for the sake of pronunciation issues, I would go with [name]Margo[/name].

I’m not a huge fan of [name]Margaret[/name]. It may just be a little too formal for every day use for me. But I love the spunky sound of [name]Margo[/name]!And it stil has a classic feel to it.

[name]Margaret[/name] is a fine name, but I don’t like it nearly as much as [name]Margot[/name]. I too think its stands well by itself. As for spelling, I understand where you’re coming from. For myself, I think I’d be inclined to use the [name]Margo[/name] spelling for the reasons you and buyby0003 stated, but I might change my mind on that. I almost always prefer the most traditional spelling of a name.

I love both [name]Margo[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name]! If she will be called [name]Margo[/name], then I would name her [name]Margo[/name]. I don’t care for nn.

I prefer [name]Margaret[/name].

I say [name]Margaret[/name] too!!

Yes, I also want to say to use [name]Margret[/name] as first name. Its really very cute and lovely name. I really like this name.

Personally, I like [name]Margo[/name].

I have long loved [name]Margo/name and could have written your post. I have the exact same hesitations about each option. It’s pretty much off the table for us as an acquaintance used it about a yr ago, but I think in the end, I would choose [name]Margo[/name]. Yes, it’s a little more mid-century than antique, but it’s the cleanest, easiest choice, imo. I like [name]Margaret[/name] as well, but I think I’d choose [name]Margo[/name] as she is.

[name]Margo[/name] would be the easiest for Americans.

Why is that? I have come across the problem of Americans not being able to deal with the silent ‘t’ on the end before; I don’t get it at all, here in [name]Oz[/name] it is not a problem. My name is [name]Margot[/name] I wouldn’t want it spelled any other way, it is far too elegant a name to leave off the ‘t’.
I say leave the ‘t’ on and let people get used to the name. If the child gets teased then they can choose to leave the ‘t’ off but I wouldn’t do it myself.

my personal favorite is [name]Marguerite[/name] nn [name]Margo[/name]. just thought i’d throw in my two cents!

[name]Margot[/name] is on our short list! We’d be using it to honor a [name]Margaret[/name]. I love [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] together!
