I really like both, but my worry is that [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] will get mispronounced. Any advice, personal experience?
Honestly, they both have the potential to be mispronounced, so I think it’s really a personal decision on which look you prefer. I would characterize [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as more chic and sophisticated and [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] as more daring and exotic. My personal preference for a first name is [name_f]Margot[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] for a middle.
I personally prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I agree with [name_f]Larissa[/name_f] that either has the potential to get mispronounced. I would not let that bother me. My son has a known Scottish name and it gets mispronounced quite often. My name, an easy 4 letter name, not popular but known, gets misspelled all the time.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] for sure! It is so spunky and cute, and I think it’s also the most common spelling of the name. If you’re really worried about pronunciation you could go for [name_f]Margo[/name_f], it is nearly impossible to mispronounce, but I’m personally a fan of [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. Margeaux looks sort of made up and tacky, it also makes me think of bordeaux wine, which is not really a favourable association.
I prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I think, unless [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] has special meaning (more so, if there’s [name_m]French[/name_m] in the child/you), then it’s unnecessary. I don’t think [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] would get mispronounced though, -aux endings are pretty easy.
I like [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]. Something about the letter x. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] feels like the most classic.
Yeah, I like the [name_f]Margo[/name_f] suggestion. They’d probably both get mispronounced as [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-Gowx, [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-Gawx, and [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-Gaht.
I would also suggest maybe putting it in the middle name spot. That would help =]
Sorry, but BOTH will be mispronounced. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me. Go [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or do another name. It’s [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or nothing. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me, I have a name that I have to constantly explain/spell and my life is miserable. If you call her [name_f]Margot[/name_f] she will be called ‘Maggot’ and if you call her [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] you’ll get '[name_f]Mar[/name_f]-gouts?" [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me it’s [name_f]Margo[/name_f] of nothing.
Cute spellings of names have no place in American society. Like, why make your child’s life miserable? It seems cute on the birth certificate and then your kid suffers for the next 80 years. Sorry to be a b*tch but I speak the truth.
A bit of information for you. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] are not cute spellings. They are the actual spellings of the name.
Your post is also harsh. I assume the OP is asking about the spellings because she loves the name. YOU might not like the name but you don’t need to.
And people can find a way to misspell and/or mispronounce any name.
I prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. Both could easily be mispronounced.
I prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f].
My favorite is [name_f]Margot[/name_f] which seems more classic and chic to me. I also thought this is the original spelling of the name. I like the look of [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] though, I don’t feel it’s tacky, just not as classic.
I prefer [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]. To me it looks sophisticated, elegant, exotic, mysterious, stylish, but [name_f]Margot[/name_f] reminds me of maggots. Both have the possibility of mispronunciations, so I don’t think it makes a huge difference.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]!! Very unique, yet very cute! What about Margie if you’re worried about mispronounciation?
I grew up with a Margeaux (spelled with the E), and her name actually never got mispronounced, as far as I can recall. I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] are both common enough that people seem to know the name.
For just personal preference, I happen to like the [name_f]Margot[/name_f] spelling a bit more.
Thanks! I have [name_f]Margot[/name_f] currently, and [name_f]Margo[/name_f] before that, but [name_f]Margo[/name_f] didn’t look right. I’m still deciding, because both are lovely spellings (and I’m indecisive), but thanks for all the opinions!
