Marguerite as FN

Hubby and I are considering [name]Marguerite[/name] as a fn if we have a girl, because its an important family name. It would not normally be my first choice as a girl’s name, but i do find it pretty. A few questions: do you like [name]Marguerite[/name], does it work with one of our favorite middle name: [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], and do you see any nicknames that naturally come out of [name]Marguerite[/name]? I’m hoping ppl would call her the full name. About the mn - we have a long 4-syllable last name, but both kind of like the sound of [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]. It’s regal sounding. Is it just too much with our long last name or does it sound ok? [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] ---_. Any other pretty feminine sounding shorter middle names that would work better? Thank you!

I love this French version of [name]Margaret[/name]. [name]Marguerite[/name] is classic, sophisticated and elegant. [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] flows fine and I like [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Louise[/name] as a combo too! [name]Daisy[/name] could be a lovely nickname for [name]Marguerite[/name] (marguerite is a daisy after all).

Oh, [name]Marguerite[/name] is my favorite iteration of the name - if my husband didn’t hate [name]Margaret[/name] and all its forms, I would definitely use it! Highly recommend it.

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] is gorgeous, as well. With a 4-syllable surname it could be a bit of a mouthful, but it’s such a lovely name I don’t think that’d stop me. However, if it bugs you, here are some pretty middle name alternatives:

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Cecile[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Hope[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Skye[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Yvonne[/name]

Good luck!

I like [name]Marguerite[/name] more than [name]Margaret[/name].

[name]Daisy[/name] is cute, [name]Pearl[/name] is also a nn for [name]Marguerite[/name]

I agree. I think [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] sounds lovely. Not sure how well it will go with your last name since there isn’t much to go off for that…

Some nicknames that come to mind are:
[name]Margie[/name]
[name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Rita[/name]

Compeletely agree.

Is your last name four hypenated names?

I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] to [name]Marguerite[/name], but regardless, with your last name I would recommend a shorter middle name.

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] is very regal and pretty:) It might be a bit much, but I don’t think it’s that bad.

I like [name]Marguerite[/name]. It’s a French name that is not as popular as some others that I am seeing and it’s very pretty. I like your middle name you picked out too.

I love [name]Marguerite[/name], and although the combo may be a bit long I think it’s a great one if you don’t mind!

I too love [name]Marguerite[/name] and think it sounds very regal along with [name]Victoria[/name]. I think [name]Gertie[/name] would be a very cute NN.

[name]Marge[/name], [name]Margie[/name], [name]Margo[/name], and [name]Rita[/name] are nicknames that first come to mind. I do think it’s a full name to say, a nickname might be hard to fight when shes in school, but if you love it then so be it! its formal/strong but still soft. I do like that not everyone has it.

My biggest concern would be that its not your first choice. If you aren’t over the moon about it, you may want to pause on it. I’m expecting and my husband came up with a name that I was questionable about, but a few weeks have past and now I’m in love with it. But I had to get there. If you’ll get there with this name, wonderful, but if you have reservations and think your little one wont love introducing herself through life then maybe theres an alternative. Thats at least the process I just went through and have now reconciled. Best wishes!!

I think it’s a sweet name, with lots of nickname possibilities ([name]Maggie[/name], [name]Margie[/name], etc.)

Let’s see:
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Lynne[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Shay[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Danay[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Janay[/name]

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] is nice, but kinda long, esp. with a 4-syllable last name!

Best of luck!

thanks everyone! i’m glad a lot of ppl like the combo [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]. to answer your question, no our last name is not hyphenated i just wanted to make the point that it’s 4 syllables long. the total name would be 11 syllables! that worries me a bit but on the other hand i haven’t found a middle name for marguerite that i like quite as much. my biggest concern about [name]Marguerite[/name] as a first name is that ppl will give her nicknames like margie, or maggie, which are not my style really. i hope ppl will call her the full name [name]Marguerite[/name].

[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] is lovely, but maybe not with your last name. Something with one syllable or two might balance it out and sound better. I had a wonderful relative named [name]Marguerite[/name], she was always just called [name]Marguerite[/name], I don’t think she had any nicknames.
I wish I knew what her middle name was…

You can probably tell people this, but you’ll have to keep in mind that maybe later, she’ll want the nickname [name]Maggie[/name] and you’ll have to get used to it at that point, so if it bothers you to that extent, I wouldn’t use the name.

You also might want a shorter, one or two syllable middle name, since your last name is 4 syllables.

Maybe:
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Yvette[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Evonne[/name]/[name]Yvonne[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Brie[/name]

I prefer [name]Margaret[/name]. I think [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] sounds good.

thanks, i agree with you, and i’m trying to get there with this name, which is why i posted for opinions. trying to love it since it’s a family name that my husband feels strongly about. it’s actually a compromise. we’re naming after a [name]Margaret[/name] and while i see why some ppl like this name (strong, respectable) i personally don’t like this type of name. i like more flowery, feminine names, so we’re settling on [name]Marguerite[/name]. hubby and i are francophiles so we both like this name. my first choices for girls names would be [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Violet[/name], or [name]Ariana[/name]. i think only [name]Victoria[/name] works as a combo with [name]Marguerite[/name]. i like some of the shorter mn’s ppl recommended here. maybe [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Elyse[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Estelle[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Hope[/name]. not sold yet, but some good possibilities.
