Maria Luna or Maria Ludivine?

We’re almost 100% decided that we will call a second daughter [name_f]Malou[/name_f], but can’t decide between [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Luna[/name_f] or [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía Ludivine. Which do you prefer and why? [name_f]Malou[/name_f] would be a Spanish and [name_m]French[/name_m] baby.

Ludivine sounds like the word lewd… so I prefer [name_f]Luna[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]

Thank you for sharing your opinion, though similarity to the English word “lewd” is not an issue for us.

I think [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Ludivine is very unusual and pretty, but [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] just seems to sound ever so sweeter to me.

[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I agree with the prior comment about the unfortunate sound of Ludivine… even if it is not an issue for you, it is something negative that could comes to mind for other people when they heard your daughter’s name that should perhaps be considered.

I’m voting for [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía Ludivine. It’s striking and so unexpected. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] sounds like loony and lunatic, but for some reason Ludivine and lewd is an issue? I think this is a clear case of nameberry bias. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a nameberry favorite, whereas Ludivine is unfamiliar to most.

Thank you for your feedback!

I like both but I think [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] has a much more little girl feel. It seems like a name a little girl would call her dolly. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Ludivine is stronger and a little more…finished for me. I don’t think any word associations would be a problem with either name…it’s her middle after all and she would be called [name_f]Malou[/name_f] (which is lovely).

[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is so pretty!

My name is [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and usually I have a trouble voting against [name_f]Luna[/name_f], but… idk, I don’t love the flow of [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. It’s really sweet and pretty, but feels almost too cutesy. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Ludivine sounds stronger.

I prefer [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I think it flows better, and I am not a fan of Ludivine.

I live in [name_f]France[/name_f] and a I can totally see a little [name_f]Malou[/name_f] fitting right into my son’s daycare group! Very cute, and I love the idea of getting to it from a longer more formal name. It does strike me though that in [name_m]French[/name_m] “[name_f]Lu[/name_f]” and “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]” are very different sounds from each other (I know a family with two kids nicknamed [name_f]LuLu[/name_f] and [name_f]LouLou[/name_f] for example!). I don’t see that as a problem in creating the nickname [name_f]Malou[/name_f] out of “[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Lu[/name_f]…”, but perhaps you would be interested in using the variation Louna? Not sure what the most common language where you live is, though, so you may not be concerned by that.

Anyways, weighing between [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and Ludivine in the middle. I like that with Ludivine the baby would have one Spanish (though of course [name_f]Maria[/name_f] is also international) name and one very [name_m]French[/name_m] name. Ludivine feels more unique than [name_f]Luna[/name_f] to me as well, if that appeals to you. That said, I would personally chose [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I think when the two full names are said together (I don’t know if you plan to do that, but I know many Spanish-speaking Marias use their “middle” or “second” name on a regular basis in day to day life too) it sounds fresh and spunky. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] also feels more international to me, and I have a love for internationally-flexible, two-syllable girls names when I consider the names on my list!

So, I don’t think there’s a “better” choice, just two very different possibilities to get you at the same great nickname.
