My grandmother has done so much for me and when I have a child I do want to honor her, but her name is so unpleasant and there is a bad nickname attached to it. I’ve been thinking about using her initials, but names that I like with her initials are few. Her middle I don’t like very much either. It has the same sound at the end of it as her first name and makes me think of the word “Gory”. Her last name isn’t the type of name you can use as a first/middle name either. I’ve been thinking of names that end in [name_f]Ria[/name_f]/[name_f]Rhea[/name_f] recently, but the only one I like is [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. I’ve thought of [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], but I don’t like it enough to use and the sound is a bit off.
What do you think of [name_f]Maria[/name_f] to honor a [name_f]Rhea[/name_f]? What are your general thoughts on [name_f]Maria[/name_f]?
I think it’s perfect! It’s an obvious honor to me, which I like more than using initials. It even sounds a bit like My [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] if you really want to sell it hard to anyone who doesn’t get the connection right away. I think [name_f]Rhianon[/name_f] is a bit difficult to say as it’s so R heavy. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] is simple & sweet & rather rare on a little one.
Other possibilities:
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Brea[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
Rya ([name_m]Rye[/name_m]-uh)
That’s so weird, I just posted about the exact same thing! I was looking for alternative for [name_f]Rhea[/name_f], my grandma’s name as well. I like Rya but I was afraid it sounded too made-up, or Rheane but I’m afraid it’s too close to singer [name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] isn’t my personal favorite, but it is a pretty name and I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch. I think it’s the thought that counts anyway, right? Go for it
I think it works perfectly. Any name including the [name_f]Ria[/name_f] sound would honour your grandmother, and I love [name_f]Maria[/name_f] - so underused nowadays, and I once met the cutest little [name_f]Maria[/name_f] which has just sold me on the name. I find [name_f]Marie[/name_f]/[name_f]Maria[/name_f] a bit outdated as middles, but as a first name I think it’s back to being fresh again.
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] really is underused as a first name. I don’t think I’ve ever met a young or teenage [name_f]Maria[/name_f], which I find odd because it’s a short, easily pronounced and a generally sweet name. It’s not my favorite, but it does have a a pleasing sound to it and a good history of use behind it. I’m surprised it’s not more popular especially considering how popular I think [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] was.
I would love to hear thoughts on the name ‘[name_f]Maria[/name_f]’ itself.
Objectively I can see [name_f]Maria[/name_f] as a lovely beautiful name.
I say objectively because I know an adult with the name that I am not too fond of.
