We’ve already decided to name our first two daughters (if we have them) [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but keep going back-and-forth over what we would name a third girl. [name]One[/name] of DH’s favorite names is [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Maria[/name]. [name]Mary[/name] would probably go better in style with [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I like how the three syllables of [name]Maria[/name] makes it sound longer like the others despite its shortness. Lately, [name]Maria[/name] has really been growing on me. The thing that holds me back, though, is that my name is [name]Margaret[/name].
If your name was [name]Margaret[/name], would you have any concerns about naming a daughter [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Maria[/name], since the names share the same first three letters?
If it helps, my family usually calls me either [name]Meg[/name] or [name]Meggie[/name], so I don’t think there would be much confusion around the house. Hubby does call me [name]Margo[/name] on occasion, but that’s usually only in our private moments. And I’m really liking the nickname [name]Mimi[/name] for [name]Maria[/name].
I don’t think it’s a problem at all. [name]Even[/name] if your DH does call you [name]Margot[/name] on occasion, I don’t see any confusion issues arising.
I see absolutely no problem with this. My name is [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] is at the top of my list for future daughters. Not exactly the same, but I really don’t think it would be a problem, especially since you mostly go by [name]Meg[/name]/[name]Meggie[/name]. But even if you didn’t I still wouldn’t see it as questionable. I do love [name]Maria[/name]. I met a little [name]Maria[/name] yesterday (the first I’ve ever met actually), and I told her mom how much I loved her name choice. So beautiful. And I think it goes perfectly fine with [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] – all beautiful classics. Great choices!
I don’t think it would be a problem at all. I actually think [name]Maria[/name] is better than [name]Mary[/name] due to the whole [name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] thing.
I think it’s fine. [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Maria[/name] are lovely together, and [name]Maria[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] don’t really strike me as that similar at all. If people can be named [name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], I don’t know why a [name]Margaret[/name] couldn’t name her daughter [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Maria[/name].
