Marianne & Suzanne

I have come to love these names through the influence of the late [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] (the songs are beyond gorgeous) and I would like to know opinions. I know that [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] is considered a bit dated, but I do think it has it’s charms.

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], the song and just a bohemian, life-loving young woman with flowing cotton clothing and a messy bun, walking throughout an old city like maybe [name_u]Paris[/name_u] or [name_m]Berlin[/name_m].

[name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] is the woman who loves wildflowers and riding her vintage bike across the [name_f]Venice[/name_f] canal bridges, the one who hinds behind her glasses and wears a long red scarf around her neck.

Would love to hear some thoughts on these names!

Between the two I like [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] best. I have a friend who is [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and goes by [name_f]Suzi[/name_f]. It wears wells even as adult.

I would love [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] is fine, but I know [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f]'s that ruin it for me.

[name_f]Susanne[/name_f] is a family name I love, but the Z spelling adds a plucky vibe, which is not a bad thing. And [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is lovely but softer (I think of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] as well).

I love [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], which I think goes perfectly with your description of [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f].

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is pretty, but I think of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], which has an old-fashioned, stifling feel to me. Maybe try [name_f]Marianna[/name_f]?

Smoosh names tend to irk me. In my mind, [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] should be [name_f]Susan[/name_f], and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] should be [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], and I love how you describe her! [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] is very cute, though i personally prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f].

I think they’re both lovely names. The “datedness” doesn’t bother me since they have many positive associations.
