I love the names [name]Marigold[/name] ([name]Mari[/name], [name]Goldie[/name]) and [name]Marguerite[/name] ([name]Margot[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Pearl[/name]).
I’d like to know which of these names YOU prefer, and why.
Also… middle name suggestions are welcome for each.
I think [name]Marguerite[/name] is more elegant, but aside from [name]Daisy[/name] dislike all its nicknames. (Except maybe [name]Rita[/name]…?) I also know someone who has [name]Marguerite[/name] as a middle and its wonderfully unexpected and beautiful in that position, I think.
[name]Marigold[/name] is more straightforward and simple and has cuter short forms. I worry that it’s too “cute” though.
I haven’t decided myself - both are on my list. [name]Will[/name] be watching the thread.
I think for middles, [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or similar, maybe [name]Simone[/name] or [name]Giselle[/name]. Something short and bit French. And [name]Marigold[/name] I would go more old-fashioned and more British, maybe [name]Faith[/name] or [name]Jane[/name].
I prefer [name]Marguerite[/name]. [name]Marigold[/name] is just just a little too cutesy for me. I definitely picture the flower on first instinct. And it’s just a little too much for me. Not…“namey” enough for my personal taste, I suppose. [name]Marguerite[/name] is lovely and sophisticated. And it has tons of nickname options.
As for middle names I love [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Eden[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Olivia[/name].
I prefer [name]Marguerite[/name] as it seems more dignified and elegant to me. I love the nn possibilities, and the familiar but slightly subtle natural, flowery vibe it has. [name]Marigold[/name] is really cute but as mentioned by previous posters, a bit too cute for me. I also much prefer daisies to marigolds, so from that point of view I’m probably biased. [name]Mari[/name] is an adorable nn but I’ve never been fond of [name]Goldie[/name].
[name]Even[/name] though they’re both flowers, the names have different images for me. [name]Marguerite[/name] is vintage, sophisticated, elegant and beautiful. [name]Marigold[/name] is cute, spunky and down-to-earth. I prefer the gorgeous [name]Marguerite[/name] (I like it slightly better than [name]Margaret[/name]).
Definitely [name]Marguerite[/name]. So sophisticated with good nicknames - [name]Daisy[/name] and [name]Rita[/name] are fine, but I favour [name]Maggie[/name] or Maga.x
P.S. [name]Love[/name] [name]Micha[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Alice[/name], which is strong, yet delicate and both names have vintage appeal.
I think [name]Marigold[/name] is a silly name. On the other hand [name]Marguerite[/name] is very french & stylish. I don’t agree on giving the meaning of a name as a nn, it just won’t stick or the child will have to answer questions all of their life. I love [name]Margie[/name], [name]Marge[/name], [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Rita[/name] for a nn. While seeming old school they are coming back and sound so cutie classic.
To me [name]Marguerite[/name] feels dramatic, stylish & beautiful but [name]Marigold[/name] feels too sweet, cute & down-to-earth for me to pick stuffier [name]Marguerite[/name]!
I also love how intuitive [name]Marigold[/name]'s nicknames are. [name]How[/name] sunny it feels. [name]Golden[/name] & clean-cut.
I do prefer [name]Marguerite[/name], however, I worry about it sounding a bit pretentious. We already have a daughter with a very French name… and we have no French heritage to back it up! I simply adore French names and tend to gravitate towards them. [name]Do[/name] you think using another French name would be an issue?
I love how sunny and fresh [name]Marigold[/name] feels but I’m not sure about it ageing well. I love that [name]Marguerite[/name] feels substancial and sophisticated. I also vastly prefer daisies to marigolds too.
I prefer [name]Marigold[/name]. While it’s quite cutesy, I just can’t get behind [name]Marguerite[/name] at all, it sounds and looks quite harsh to me. I would love to meet a [name]Marigold[/name] though–[name]Mari[/name], [name]Ari[/name], [name]Goldie[/name], and [name]Maggie[/name] would all be adorable nns!
I prefer [name]Marigold[/name]. I really like the nicknames: [name]Mari[/name], [name]Goldie[/name].
[name]Marguerite[/name] is commonly misspelled. Most people will think it’s Margert and pronounce and spell it wrong. Also the nicknames are a tad ridiculous. I’ve known people named [name]Marguerite[/name] who go by [name]Daisy[/name] + [name]Pearl[/name]. No one can ever understand why. Sometimes I ask about nicknames on this site and I was told that [name]Rory[/name] for [name]Victoria[/name] was stretching it, but [name]Daisy[/name] or [name]Pearl[/name] for [name]Marguerite[/name] is fine! Okay.l Most people don’t know about the names history and would find it odd even if they did. The middle of [name]Marguerite[/name] reminds guerrilla warfare. The end of [name]Marguerite[/name] makes me think about “ur rite” (internet speak). I hate to be so negative about it, but I don’t understand the use of this name ever. Its pretty to say but is bound to a world of complications and misunderstandings.
L [name]DI[/name] prefer [name]Marguerite[/name] because it’s more classic and regal, while [name]Marigold[/name] sounds more hippie and eccentric. I think [name]Marigold[/name] would sound really cute on a baby but [name]Marguerite[/name] ages better and sounds more professional. This is weird but I often judge names based on how they sound with “Dr”. Would you rather have Dr. [name]Marguerite[/name] or Dr. [name]Marigold[/name] performing surgery on you? Also, marigolds don’t even smell nice or look pretty, in my opinion.
