I’m just over 19 weeks along with a baby girl, and my husband and I have pretty much settled on [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] (“grace like the sea”). Meanings are incredibly important to us, although we also love the sweet, delicate sound of the two names together. However, almost everyone we’ve mentioned the name to thinks “[name]Marina[/name]” is an odd choice.
Assuming that we are aware of and like the double-A sound of the names’ endings, and we love the meaning, is there something we’re missing here? Is “[name]Marina[/name]” terrible?
[name]Marina[/name] isn’t terrible. It is just not my style. [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] doesn’t flow very well. [name]How[/name] about [name]Anne[/name] [name]Marina[/name]?
I think its fine. I actually like the flow of [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] and the meaning is lovely. I suppose [name]Marina[/name] is an unusual choice these days, perhaps is seen as a little dated to some people, but i wouldn’t let that bother you. I don’t know if you’re looking for other suggestions but [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name] means ‘grace and heart of the sea’ which is lovely too and you get the double a ending that you like.
We’ll just call her “[name]Anna[/name].” I rather like the flow of [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] myself, and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name] is lovely too!
I think [name]Marina[/name] is nice. [name]Mira[/name] is also pretty and means ocean / sea. I don’t personally like [name]Anna[/name] (too simple), but to each his or her own.
I think it’s a lovely name! It does sound like [name]Anna[/name] Karenina, but I still like it. I’ve actually been considering [name]Marina[/name] as a first name, but I’m really hesitant because a marina is a place where you dock your boat :-/ I don’t know if people would usually think of that or not, but I live in a coastal area and after falling in love with the name I made the connection.
[name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] does sound a bit like [name]Anna[/name] Karenina and is a bit rhymy, but whatever, both [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Marina[/name] are gorgeous names and they compliment each other well. I really like it the combination.
I think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is nice. I don’t think [name]Marina[/name] is unusual at all. There is a singer called [name]Marina[/name] and the diamonds, so it might be considered less unusual.
I love [name]Marina[/name] (and not just because of [name]Marina[/name] and the Diamonds, although I’m sure that helps). [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is a bit rhymey, but if the last name has a completely different sound, I think it works well. The meaning is beautiful.
I think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is lovely and classic. I think of [name]Anna[/name] [name]Maria[/name] and it might get mistaken for that, but that’s the only flaw I see. Gorgeous choice!
Oddly I actually went to school with a girl named [name]Marina[/name] for 8 and it never occurred to me - until after I went to college - that her name was a word name (as in place where you dock a boat).
I think it’s quite charming with just enough quirk to be interesting without weird.
I love the name [name]Marina[/name]. I think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] sounds beautiful.
I agree with Taz above who said that people might be surprised just because they’d expect [name]Anna[/name] [name]Maria[/name] instead. I don’t think that’s a big deal, though, and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] sounds much prettier to me.
I love the name [name]Marina[/name] but DH vetoed due to the boat docking thing. [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name] has a lot of a’s in it, but if you love it, go with it–it’s not that big of a deal (I won’t even go so far as to call it a “problem”)
