Marisol and Marina?

I love the names [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f], they’re two of my top names, but I’m thinking of taking them off my list for possibilities for [name_f]Ama[/name_f]'s sister.

I’m worried [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] seems like I’ve just picked pieces of my daughter’s name and shoved them together - [name_f]Ame[/name_f]lia [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Sol[/name_m]eil

And I’m worried [name_f]Marina[/name_f] just has too many repeating sounds from [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

Are they okay, or should I get rid of them?

I think they are perfectly okay. Perhaps you feel they are so similar because they fit stylistically… I think that [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] being a middle name won’t interfere or make [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] which would be a first name unusable, it’s actually a very nice connection. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] feels placid and has a nature ring to it like [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], but somehow to me they feel compatible because they are so soft, like a lazy beach day at sunset.

[name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] aren’t too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] at all! When I saw the title of your post I thought you were asking about [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] as sister names and thought, that’s a bit too close, but either would be fine with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I get what you mean about [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] feeling like your daughter’s names combined, but she will be [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Ama[/name_f] most of the time anyways, so it’s okay if they share a lot of sounds. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] does have similar sounds but since these sounds are in a different order I wouldn’t have thought anything of it really.

I think that both [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] are both great names, but your concerns are valid.

I was going to say it was fine, as written down they do seem very dissimilar, but having said them outloud, they do sound very similar.

I think you would be okay with [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] overall, if you don’t use [name_f]Ama[/name_f]'s full name often. I would change [name_f]Marina[/name_f] to [name_f]Marine[/name_f] or [name_f]Marin[/name_f], if you like them.

Wow, kind of a mixed bag of answers! I think I’ll try saying them together and see how much I notice it.

I don’t think they’re too close at all!

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] are not alike at all, so I wouldn’t worry about that. However, I like [name_f]Marina[/name_f] with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] better than [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] (which I love) with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], because stylistically they seem more alike, despite a slight similarity in sound. That being said, if you normally call [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Ama[/name_f] and plan to give the next little one a nickname too, I would see if those two names sound alike, and if they don’t I wouldn’t stress about the given names being relatively close.
