[QUOTE=theresa;3109690]Hey guys,

I’m starting to really like the name [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]. What are your thoughts on it? The name means pearl, but it can also be a variation of the herb marjoram. Marjoram is symbolic of happiness, peace, and harmony. In mythology, [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] made it a symbolism of happiness.

For combos, I’ve come up with

[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Moonflower (symbolic of dreams of love)
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Morningstar (symbolic of hope and guidance)
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Moonlight
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Moonshadow
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] (means guardian of the sea)

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like any of these? Suggestions?\

[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is a fabulous name!

Of course I am partial because it was my [name_f]Nana[/name_f]'s name.

I love M starting names for girls (and boys actually). A soft but strong sound.

I love the marjoram connection. It is sweet, old-fashioned, nostalgic yet sounds strong strong strong! Unlike [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] or [name_f]Clover[/name_f] which are also sweet and old-fashioned and nostalgic, but weak.

As a girl in the 60’s and 70’s, I used to look up names and it said [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] was English and meant sweet-smelling which I loved. My [name_f]Nana[/name_f] had four acres of gardens and over 250 rose bushes so that fit. (In fact, I named my unborn daughter [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]).

So go for it! I would consider toning it down on the middles, though [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Morningstar is beautiful sounding. Maybe consider some other initials.

I like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] a bunch plus [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname and the name meaning altogether is super strong.

Thanks for the replies! Anyone else?

I love [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], although your combos are a bit of a mouthful. I do love all the symbolism you are going for though.
Trying to keep the romantic mythology feel maybe:
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Serephine/a
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]

My favourite name at the moment is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] feels very, very similar to me so I’m a fan. I hate to be boring, but I really do love the combo [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is a another favourite of mine (yes, I like [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy!).

Something whimsical to suggest though… [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Meadowlark!

yeah Im trying to go for alliteration that’s why, but I like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].

I was almost named [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] (after my grandma). My dad nixed it.

My mom was going to nickname me [name_u]Jorie[/name_u].

If you’re looking for alliteration I like:

[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Minnow

Other combos I like:
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Eldora[/name_f] (my grandma’s name)

Other than [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Meadowlark, I would also suggest:

[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Melisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f]
and
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] (like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], but without the alliteration)

I absolutely love [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]. It’s a name that smiles, if that makes sense outside of my head

[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], to borrow from one of the responders, is lovely. [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]? [name_f]Divine[/name_f]!

I added a poll if you could vote please!

Marjorie Moonflower (symbolic of dreams of love)
Marjorie Morningstar (symbolic of hope and guidance)
Marjorie Moonlight
Marjorie Moonshadow

I just can’t get on board with these since these seem like fairy/fantasy names, not something you would name your child.

I voted for [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] but I do also like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]. These are more appropriate, in my opinion, for a person.

I think [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is darling, and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] - Oh my goodness. I remember skimming records of the passenger list for the Titanic a couple of years ago and coming across a [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], which was also beautiful.

I like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] Morningstar because of the [name_m]Herman[/name_m] Wouk novel, but I think you have to be careful of naming a child the same name as a literary character. What about [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]? It’s got a modern sensibility.

I think the first three are a bit too much - too many syllables, hard to say.

I like [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] a lot - both vintage names and they sound great together.
