We picked the name Marlowe/Marlo for our DD. Looking for help on spelling and middle name selection.
We are debating whether to spell it [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I feel like it depends on the middle name?
[name_u]Marlo[/name_u] can also look like “Mario” when written which I don’t love, and we don’t like [name_u]Marlow[/name_u].
Middle name would likely be either:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Dot[/name_f] (.com we know)
[name_u]Cove[/name_u]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (we like this as a first name for a potential daughter down the road).
[name_f]Dot[/name_f] is my grandma but it’s hard to fit that name in and not sound like an email address. I just don’t like the full name [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], and she always went by [name_f]Dot[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is the name my grandma chose as her favourite girl name . It is super cute and not one we thought of and my only hesitation is too many L sounds?
Our last name is a Mc name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] gut says [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] would love to hear any advise.
Marlowe Lily is lovely! you should definitely go with your gut, i think (:
i like the connection lily ahs your grandma! it’s a nice way to honor her.
eloise is a fantastic sister name for marlowe, so i would save it if i were you
dot is nice but i think lily is a better fit!
cove is very cute as well, and i love Marlowe Cove, but i think Marlowe Lily is the best option for you! i don’t think there are too many L sounds or anything. it sounds great
I think depending on what you choose:
[name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Dot[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_u]Cove[/name_u]
Are what to me looks best, but I think you’re leaning more towards [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] which works just as well.
Follow your gut! [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is beautiful and was my favourite of your options even before I read that you were leaning towards it.
I like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Dot[/name_f] (or Dotty?), followed by [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] but it sounds like it’s best to keep that in case you have another daughter in the future
What a great choice! [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter’s middle name is [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] She is L!v [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] McSomething also haha
I love your list and they all sound good with [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I see more [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as a potential sister for [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], and I thought about it before reading your comment.
I love [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Dot[/name_f] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_u]Cove[/name_u]. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is sweet and flowery too.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is beautiful! [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so cute! I also love [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Dot[/name_f], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_u]Cove[/name_u], or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (I would save [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] if you want to use it in the future though). [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_u]Cove[/name_u].
I prefer the spelling [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] because I’m personally a fan of just simplifying names to the least amount of letters whenever possible. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] just seems a little “too much” in my opinion. And for middle names out of those you’ve listed my personal favorite is [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_u]Cove[/name_u], but that’s just me thinking without the sentimental value. If you want to honor your grandma I think [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_f]Dot[/name_f] or [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are both beautiful choices. I don’t think the .com connection would be an issue unless your last name is or sounds like “Com.” But if your heart is telling you to go with [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] then I say go with it! It’s a beautiful name and a lot of times if your gut is telling you that’s your baby’s name then that’s the name that’s going to feel right when you see her.
I definitely prefer the [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] spelling.
I think you are over thinking the association of the name [name_f]Dot[/name_f] with “.com”. If you want to honor your grandmother and she goes by [name_f]Dot[/name_f], I would use her name. To be honest, in my opinion, I feel the repetition of the letter L is a bit too much with the name MarLowe LiLy.
That being said, an important factor, is the overall flow and cadence of the entire name when said aloud with the last name. Which one do you prefer?
I think you’re gut is on the money with [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s a little bit L heavy but not tongue twisty or anything like that. It’s a lovely choice.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] could also be an option?
