[name_f]Do[/name_f] these names match? I love the name [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and will be using it, but am wondering about what names fit with it. Could three sisters be named [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], or are they too different/similar? Is [name_f]Junia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] better?
I think they are fantastic together! [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] are closest so maybe the birth order would help? For example, [name_f]Martha[/name_f] being in between [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] comes across as more dated to me than the others. I would rather [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Marcia[/name_f].
With [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] both being Biblical, I think they’re stylistically great together. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] feels a little more out of place, but also very similar to Junia–probably more similar than I would want for sisters.
Thanks for the advice! It’s important for me that my first daughter is [name_f]Martha[/name_f], but otherwise this would be great. I might have to pick between [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
Thanks for the recommendations, I am however set on [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. I’m Scandinavian and don’t consider it that dated as I know a few younger women with the name, but none older women, so that might be different based on nationality? I’m not sure. [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Marcia[/name_f] are beautiful names though.
Yes, you might be right! I do like the Biblical connotations, and one of the reasons I like Lucia is because of Saint Lucy, which is called Lucia in my country. Perhaps I’ll have to reconsider Lucia, as it also feels a little less natural in my language. Thanks for the advice!
They fit well together, especially [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
I wouldn’t go for all the repeat endings. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]June[/name_f] would be a good pair.
I think [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] fit, although I think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] definitely stands out compared to the other two; older and heavier than the more rhymey and cute [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. But hey, maybe that’s just your style!
I think they could work.
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] feel more obviously cohesive - they’re both classic, maybe a little different in vibe, but then, siblings are different people so that works for me.
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] are less so - [name_f]Junia[/name_f] feels unexpected and undiscovered. Again, siblings are different people so it’s not a big deal, but if cohesion in style matters to you, they don’t obviously go.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] have a playful, Latin vibe, both ancient and fresh at the same time - and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], as @Julie_NameNerd point’s outs, sort of bridges the gap between clunky-classic [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and sunny [name_f]Junia[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] only other pause would be that if I only heard them said (without seeing the kids or the names written down), I might think it was [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_m]Junior[/name_m] (as if [family name] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] ) but I think that might be a me problem
First, I want to say I love [name_f]Martha[/name_f]! She’s so underrated, vintage and spunky! Personally, I don’t feel like all three go together. I could see sisters [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and I could see sisters [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], but I can’t see [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I will say, I prefer [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and general and with [name_f]Martha[/name_f]!
I never know how to pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] which makes me uncomfortable with that name.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Junia[/name_f] but would prefer just the streamlined version [name_f]June[/name_f].
I like all three names and I think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] works with [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. But I don’t really love [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] together. I notice that they’re two letters off (_u_ia) and they have different vibes to me. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] can be biblical and quirky with [name_f]Junia[/name_f], or European and classic with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. But with both - the matchiness of J & L trips me up and the cohesion is a bit off imho.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your style! (I have an eldest daughter named [name_f]Martha[/name_f] myself—it’s been so sweet and wearable and we get lots of comments about how refreshing it is here in the US.)
I find [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] a really melodic and appealing group of sister names. I don’t mind the repeating -ia endings because the consonant sounds are all different. They’re all saint names and [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] are both Biblical. [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_f]June[/name_f] would be more expected to US ears, but that’s just one cultural context! I actually had [name_f]June[/name_f] on my list for our second daughter (who ended up Theodora) and you’re inspiring me to add [name_f]Junia[/name_f] to my list for the future.
I may be in the minority, but I think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] are too matchy in a sibset together (but both lovely separately!). Of the two, I think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] would work the best with [name_f]Martha[/name_f].
I feel like [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is very much an outlier compared to [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] which have similar vibes. If I were picking 3 sibling girl names, I’d probably go [name_f]Martha[/name_f], pick either [name_f]Junia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] but not both, and then a third with a contrasting style again. I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] to [name_f]Junia[/name_f], as [name_f]Junia[/name_f] just sounds like [name_m]Junior[/name_m] in my accent rather than a girls name.
Martha feels quite different from the ancient Roman feels of Junia and Lucia for me, but the more I thought about it, the more I could see it? Martha and Junia were both listed in the New Testament (Junia a cousin of the apostle Paul, Martha the sister of one of Jesus’ dearest friends), and while I know very little about saints in the Catholic/Anglican churches, I do remember hearing about a St. Lucy/Lucia who served the Christian church and something to do with the catacombs in Rome. Marta, Lucia, and Junia, or Martina, Lucia, and Junia fit better for me, but I can still see Martha with the other two. Because they’re both in the New Testament, Martha and Junia fit better for me than Martha and Lucia, but I think either could work just fine.
Good luck!
ETA: I say Lucia the Italian way, loo-CHEE-ah, so Junia and Lucia feel different enough to me not to be repetitive, but I think the similarity in length and ending for Junia and Lucia also make Martha feel like an outlier, but again, not a dealbreaker, imo!
I really warm to the name Martha, and have since I was little.
I think the names could go together - they’re all sweet, A-ending names - but I find Junia the name that gives me pause both because it looks so close to Lucia letters-wise and because of the “junior” thing. At the same time, it’s a cool, fresh name (with the fab nicknames Junie or Juno) and goes with Martha. Just to mix them up a little, how about:
Martha, Lucy/Lucia & June
Martha, Lucia & Agnes
Martha, Junia & Frida
Martha, Tilda & Lucia
Martha, Ingrid & Lucia
Martha, Lucia & Vera
Martha, Junia & Brita
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] is lovely!
I like [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] but do not think they are the best together. Too similar in spelling and sound; I’m exceptionally picky about matchy sibling names, though.
Stylewise, [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] work great because there was a long-running time in history where both were used often and in the same families. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] has never seen great popularity and is fresh. With Biblical roots, it also works with [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. So, I would choose between [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] as her sister.
[name_f]June[/name_f] is fab, too. [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]June[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], stellar sibset.
[name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]June[/name_f], and [name_f]Louise[/name_f], as well
Coming to mind to mix with [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]:
[name_f]Pauline[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Annette[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
With [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f]:
[name_f]Essa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Sharon[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Selah[/name_f]
