Martha, Olive or Esther

Trimming down short list, would appreciate some feedback on these three ladies.

Thank you

1 [name_f]Esther[/name_f] - strong and feminine
2 [name_f]Martha[/name_f] - I do prefer [name_f]Marta[/name_f] myself. This is still strongly tied to [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_m]Stewart[/name_m].
3 [name_f]Olive[/name_f] - This just makes me think of Popeye’s girlfriend, a cute reindeer and martinis.

Although [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is relatively popular in the UK I still find it too “old lady” and I just cannot picture it on an actual child, although this may help if I ever met a [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is gorgeous and so refreshing to hear instead of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], which is so overdone.

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] is my favourite, it’s old fashioned without being too “old lady.”

I like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] best and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] second.

I love all three of these names, but [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is my favorite. It doesn’t seem to get much love on Nameberry, which confuses me somewhat as I think it fits well with other ‘[name_u]Berry[/name_u] style’ names. I find it sophisticated and elegant, yet very strong.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] feels nerdy cool, I think it brings spunk and happiness to overused (but still gorgeous) [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is lovely, though I much prefer the streamlined European [name_f]Marta[/name_f]. It does feel slightly old-ladyish, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] has always given me a sour, snooty kind of vibe, so I’ve never really been a fan. I really like [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] though. They’re both underused Biblical classics, and I especially like how [name_f]Martha[/name_f] has just the right combination of softness and strength. I adore the idea of an [name_f]Esther[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Essie[/name_f]. In order of preference:

  1. [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Olive[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and can totally picture them on someone any age! [name_f]Esther[/name_f] I would give to a baby born near [name_f]Easter[/name_f] since there’s some homophony going on there. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is so sweet and home-y and reminds me of The [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Garden and Half [name_u]Magic[/name_u]. I still can’t see the appeal of [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. Maybe it will grow on me, but I still prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

[name_f]Martha[/name_f] for sure, it’s been my top choice (or close to the top) for quite some time. That would be followed by [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and finally [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is lovely in theory, but the sound isn’t as nice as the name looks.

  1. [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Olive[/name_f]

A great set of three sisters! I like [name_f]Esther[/name_f] best for the Biblical figure and meaning, then [name_f]Martha[/name_f] for similar reasons, then [name_f]Olive[/name_f] - [name_f]Olive[/name_f]'s a fine name but it always makes me think of the food before any of the “symbol of peace/tree/leaf” associations and I just find that odd.

Oh my, name heaven!

[name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Olive[/name_f] are all spunky and fashionable!

I’m going to be no good at helping you decide :).

Eeks! What else have you got?

Well, honestly, I don’t care for any of these. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is one my least favorite news. I detest it. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] both have a long wonderful history, but I find them both too clunky and old fashioned. I think my vote would be for [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

Thank you everyone, even those of you who don’t even like our choices though I’m not sure why you would bother you are so welcome to suggest some others if you feel inclined. I agree with all of what you said Claraminta. Appollonia - always a witty comment! Thank you, pls keep them coming.

I really like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as I think it would be cute but age well and as previously mentioned it branches off from the overused [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I am not a huge fan of [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is just not my style but I can appreciate the appeal. I love vintage gems that are ready for restoration such as [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Darling choices X

I love [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f], really really don’t like [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Esther[/name_f] by far, love that one.
[name_f]My[/name_f] next choice would be [name_f]Olive[/name_f], then [name_f]Martha[/name_f].
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] is a name that in theory is nice, but I know a [name_f]Martha[/name_f] who is probably in her late 20’s (ok well I don’t know her, but she’s a clerk at a store I go to often ;)) And whenever I read her name tag “[name_f]Martha[/name_f]” it just strikes me as odd. I guess it just still seems too old lady in my mind though I like old lady names.

Thank you everyone, even those who don’t like any of our choices, maybe you could suggest some others??? sunkissed - your opinion reflects what most of our friends feel about them as well. Appollonia - always a witty comment. Thank you, please keep them coming.

I picture either a very old [name_f]Martha[/name_f] (it was my late great grandmother’s name!) or a very young and spunky girl. And of course there’s [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_m]Stewart[/name_m].

I like it, but I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and other M names much more.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is to me a nice food more than a name. I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] though.

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] to me is an old lady in a shawl.

Half [name_u]Magic[/name_u]! An [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Eager fan, yes!

That’s why I like [name_f]Martha[/name_f], b/c of the spunky girl in that book.
