Martin

Given the great initial debacle involved with [name]Fox[/name], it seems like [name]Martin[/name] has really moved to the forefront. DH and I have both loved it since I was pregnant with DD, but I always had misgivings about the obvious nicknames - [name]Marty[/name] and [name]Mart[/name]. It’s such a serious name that it seems like a nickname would be unavoidable. But then hubby was reading the name meaning aloud and it hit me - [name]Mars[/name]!

So, what do you think of [name]Ivy[/name] & [name]Martin[/name] as a sib set? Full name would likely be [name]Martin[/name] [name]Commodore[/name].

Thanks!

[name]Martin[/name]… I’ve honestly never seen the appeal, but I do sort of like the idea of it with the nn [name]Mars[/name]! Plus, [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Martin[/name] work really well together–they’re unexpected, but I really like them as a pairing. And [name]Martin[/name] [name]Commodore[/name] is really, really cool. [name]Fox[/name] would have been amazing, too, but I think I like [name]Martin[/name] with [name]Ivy[/name] more.

[name]Martin[/name] is one of my favourite names, so I’m biased! Growing up I had a fantastic teacher whose first name was [name]Martin[/name], and I really lilked the Redwall books when I was younger (one of the main characters was [name]Martin[/name] the Warrior). Nothing but positive connotations for me, and I think the combination of [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Martin[/name] is adorable.

Oddly like the pp, I had a really great teacher named [name]Martin[/name], in middle school / first year of high school. Easily can say he influenced my success as I’m in a physics/science based career and I started off HORRIBLE at math, which got me to where I am today.

[name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Martin[/name] sounds lovely.

ash - I know what you mean. If you had asked me 5 years ago whether I’d ever consider the name [name]Martin[/name] for a future child, I probably would’ve laughed in your face. It’s a name that DH really loved (most likely due to [name]Martin[/name] [name]Freeman[/name], but I’m not going to press him  ), and it’s grown on me over the last few years, to the point that I really love it, too. I’d never choose it if I was naming a baby alone, but it’s actually quite representative of DH’s and my combined naming style

nova and sansa - I’m glad you both like it! [name]How[/name] cool that you both had such special and influential teachers!

I like [name]Martin[/name] but I also like the nickname [name]Marty[/name]. [name]Mars[/name] is too out there for me. [name]Commodore[/name] seems odd as a name, it reminds me of commode.

I like both [name]Martin[/name], the middle and nn [name]Mars[/name]. Go for it!

scarletrune - HAHAHAHA. Commode, eh? [name]Commodore[/name] is a family name… hopefully most people will have the navy/[name]Commodore[/name] 64 association before thinking of commode though, lol. I do wonder if [name]Marty[/name] will grow on me when there’s an actual baby. My husband worked with a fairly toxic woman named [name]Marti[/name], so that’s where my hatred of [name]Marty[/name] comes from.

clocktower - Thanks!

Oh my goodness. First I thought [name]Martin[/name]'s really dull, but [name]Martin[/name] [name]Commodore[/name]'s got swagger and sass! And [name]Mars[/name] is an adorable nickname. [name]Ivy[/name] & [name]Mars[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] & [name]Martin[/name].

By the way, I just saw in another thread that you can’t use [name]Clio[/name]! Oh no! I was almost certain that would be your future little baby… Well, well, [name]Phoebe[/name] it is
