Mary Jane?

Does everyone think of the shoe when they hear the name [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? I love the first name [name]Mary[/name] and I want a MN with a significant literary meaning. [name]Jane[/name] is one of my favorite [name]Austen[/name] characters. I can’t use [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Alice[/name] for a middle name. Any other ideas if you think [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] doesn’t work?

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is pretty common slang for marijuana, enough that it would be a big problem for a growing child or even an adult.

Try:
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Camille[/name]

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is my favorite [name]Mary[/name] combo but everyone would automatically think of weed/pot/marijuana…i love mary jane shoes but that didnt even cross my mind

The only thing I think of with [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is pot. Drawing up an image of a shoe is the least of your worries! I love all of the suggestions.

My late mother, [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name], grew up in the 1930s and '40s before the name had any such connotations. I understand the concern, but - given that it’s my mother’s name – I just see [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] as a lovely, lovely name.

Other [name]Mary[/name] combinations:

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Joan[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elena[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]

Yah, I definitely think of reefer…sorry. The shoe was a distant second.

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Shelly[/name]

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] makes me think of pot and shoes since you mentioned it. I wouldn’t put it directly after [name]Mary[/name] but you could use it as a second middle name. I also really like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Claire[/name].
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Ella[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Ava[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Helena[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

Wow, I’m really surprised at the response. I don’t think of pot at all, I mean I would if it was said in that context, but it would never be the first thing I thought. I think of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] from Spiderman, and sort of the shoes (which I love)… mostly I just think of a really sweet, vintage girl… like from a 50s children’s primer. I really love the name [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and I hope you use it.

definitely a lovely name but sorry to say the first thing that comes to my mind is marijuana ):

both names are lovely… but maybe with other middle names?

all these pot heads writing in…
i didn’t even think of pot…
i think of the shoe… but i think how cute the little girl looks in the shoes
my best friend’s mom is [name]Mari[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and i think its a great name…

Oh my, I live inder a rock because the weed thing didn’t even come to mind and I’ve been mulling over this name for weeks!

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] is pretty and works with our needs - [name]Eliza[/name] Doolittle!

Sigh… I still love [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] though…

thanks for all the suggestions!

I adore the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I know kids now days aren’t going to as [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] that connection. Their parents may. But it’s such a fabulous name! I hope you use it!

I’d use [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]*. My family has a pretty broad flexibility on naming after people though?

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is beautiful and classic - and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is beautiful and classic - but I wouldn’t use [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] together.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is actually one of my favourite FNs.

*[name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are loosely related etymologically and are equally classic.

maybe change mary to:
marissa
marley
may
maylie
mara

just a thought

The marjuana connection is overwhelming and makes the combo completely unusable in my opinion.

You don’t have to be a “pot head” to notice the pop culture and slang culture connotation. What an ignorant thing to say.

This post is from 2010… I don’t think the user is around anymore.
