Mary vs Molly?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
Really loving [name_f]Mary[/name_f] lately, in her sweet simplicity and traditional aesthetics.
I’m just worried if she sounds a little “old” to be used on a person today.
I’m also worried about the potential nickname of [name_u]Maz[/name_u] or Mazza where I am.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is a better alternative to [name_f]Mary[/name_f]?
I think it has a similar vibe, just a little spunkier.
I’m just worried, does [name_f]Molly[/name_f] sound professional enough? [name_f]Mary[/name_f] definitely does, but I’m not sure about [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
I do love both names though, so I’d love to know, which do you prefer and why?

i prefer Molly, and i definitely think it’s professional enough! people have been named Molly as a full name for a long time. (and i mean, when compared to some names being used now, Molly is very professional!)

i think Mary is fine but a little dated sounding. i agree that Molly has the same vibe as Mary, while also being fresher and fitting better on a young person

I prefer [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with the option of [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for a nickname. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is such a heartwarming name to me!

I’ve met two little [name_f]Marys[/name_f] and it suited them both well

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is charming and sweet! [name_f]Molly[/name_f] does feel slightly warmer, but also with an edge of kick and ruggedness. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] seems perfectly professional to me  I’ve worked with an adult [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and it gives me the same vibes as names like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Holly[/name_u], [name_u]Zoe[/name_u], [name_u]Alma[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] which work fine in professional settings too

I prefer the more serious [name_f]Mary[/name_f], who can always choose to be called [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (or Polly!).

I met multiple adult Mollys while in [name_u]England[/name_u], it definitely didn’t feel childish or unprofessional! While I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] has a warmer, cozier feeling, which I prefer!

I prefer [name_f]Molly[/name_f]! It’s one of my favourite names, actually. I definitely think it’s fine in a professional setting. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is also sweet, and I’ve met several young [name_f]Marys[/name_f]. You could always use [name_f]Molly[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!

I prefer [name_f]Mary[/name_f] :tulip:

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is gorgeous she’s such a sweet, classic choice that feels so unexpected and refreshing. I would love to meet a baby [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! I’m in the UK and we have nicknames Caz for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] etc but never come across Maz/Mazza for [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I actually think nicknames can be prevented and as [name_u]Maz[/name_u] isn’t the first thought when you think of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I wouldn’t worry to much. Also i think if you just call her [name_f]Mary[/name_f] most people would follow suit and use [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] if you love nicknames [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] could be a cute nickname for [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

Regarding [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I’ve never been a massive fan but she definitely works as a stand-alone name and is professional enough for a businesswoman. Where I am most Molly’s are just [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and they haven’t encountered any issues so I wouldn’t worry to much.

I prefer [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. It’s still a top name in my state because of the popularity of double names (Mary [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], etc) so doesn’t feel old to me at all. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is just kind of blah. I doubt most people know it was originally a nickname for [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

As a young (ish) [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I’d like to give my own name a vote of confidence! I really love it - easy to spell and pronounce, but it’s extremely rare to meet another one in my own age group. I love that there’s such a history to it and so many kick*ss women throughout history have carried my name or a variant of it. That said I hated my name as a kid (thought it was plain and boring) and have only recently come round to it; also a lot of people assume my family are very religious (true enough). The only nickname I’ve ever been given is Mare-bear by my bestie and I doubt that’s going to catch on.
I like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and I definitely think it’s professional enough, but I’ve known a lot of them so it doesn’t have much sparkle, and my friend [name_f]Molly[/name_f] sometimes gets mild teasing due to the slang connection. That said it is a very cute name!

I like both, but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] feels more timeless and wearable to me!

Hmm… I don’t think I have a preference here. I’ll more than likely be using [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] because my grandma’s name was [name_f]Mary[/name_f], not because I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] more than [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is more playful for sure, but in this day and age I think she’s plenty professional enough to be used. I worked in a huge corporate building in downtown [name_m]Nashville[/name_m], TN with women named [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] and [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]. I really don’t think “professionalism” in a name matters that much anymore. At least it won’t to the next generations. These 2 definitely have very different feels to them, so I think it’s going to depend entirely on what you’re going for. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is more down to earth, straight forward, and (dare I say) stodgy. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is more playful, cottegcore vintage. If [name_f]Mary[/name_f] were paired with something more whimsical as a double barrel I think it would be much more interesting!

I love both. My late Nan was Molly and she called my aunt Mary! I don’t think it ever occurred to her that she had given her younger daughter practically the same name!

Mary is always going to be a classic. It’s never seemed dated to me. Mary is at the centre of the Christmas story for a start, and when I think of the name it is that imagery that springs to mind. Mary was young. To know a little Mary would be wonderful!

Molly is and always will be a very special name to me. My Nan and I were very close all through my life.

It depends, I think whether you want a more popular name or something well-known and less used. If the latter, choose Mary, and if the former, choose Molly. You can’t wrong with either of them.

I [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
Such a beautiful classic

[name_f]Molly[/name_f] is nice but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] wins it every time for me
