Mary?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

What are your opinions on the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]? Is it too plain? What do you think of when you hear it/what do you imagine a little [name_f]Mary[/name_f] to be like?
Starting to crush on it lately, but I’m not sure whether it’s really fn material - [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is my middle name. Lady [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Crawley from Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] has changed my opinion of it over the years, and I love her badass, strong character.

Combos would be great too!

Thank you:)

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is very classic and will never be boring. It goes very well in either spot but if it’s your middle it would be lovely to carry on that tradition in your naming daughter or even daughters or as a fn for one of them

[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I could see being rather calm and sweet.

I know others will say [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is classic, but I think the fact that it was such a dominating name for so many years does make it kind of a dry choice. It’s not a bad name, but if I were to meet a child named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I would have to assume they were just named for a relative. Personally, I wouldn’t be impressed.

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! My first daughter will most likely be [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (possibly [name_f]Marielle[/name_f], but I’m leaning more toward [name_f]Mary[/name_f]). I know a lot of people think it’s too plain, and I can understand why given how common it’s been in the past several hundred years, but now it’s not even in the top 100 in the US. To me it sounds much more distinctive than names that are currently more popular, such as [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. The songs “[name_f]Mary[/name_f]'s a Grand Old Name” and “Flow Gently Sweet [name_f]Afton[/name_f]” make me love it even more.

I can totally understand falling for a name because of a character. That has definitely happened to me before lol

I’m biased because it’s really not my style, but I would say it’s plain. But names like that aren’t for me, like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (my mn), [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f]…you know.

I think it’s definitely usable as a first name, though. If the time comes and you’re still loving it, you should totally go for it. You could even give her something longer and frillier in the middle if that’s what you want =]

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! I wish more parents would use it as a first name again. It would be awesome to see some little girls named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] again. I’m highly considering [name_f]Mary[/name_f] myself.

Have you thought of pairing [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with another name for a double first name?

Examples include:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a lovely name. I prefer it as a double name myself.
