Marzena?

I’d never heard of this name before but saw it today, a Polish friend of a friend. I’m intrigued!

Thoughts? Pronunciation?

Me too. [name_f]My[/name_f] SO laughs because I’m so often drawn to z sounds.

Based on what I know of Polish phonetics, I’d guess it’s pronounced mah-ZHEH-nah. I think it’s a pretty name.

Interesting! Nameberry has it as a form of [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], which I admit to preferring (or even Marsela). It also reminds me of Malgorzata, which I also prefer to [name_f]Marzena[/name_f]. I would say mar-ZAY-nah, but admittedly my Polish isn’t the best. Interesting name for sure, but I would take [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] or Malgorzata over it personally.

Thanks - I like that pronunciation, better than if it was mah-zee-na.

Agree that I like [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] too, but I do always love a name that feels more new/unheard (and I like the z sound).

I think it’s beautiful, at least with the pronunciation in my head. I know nothing about Polish, but my intuitive pronunciation would be mar-ZEN-uh.

It’s pretty! It’s rather dated in Poland right now (the one I know is in her 50s and is probably around average age for a Marzena), but it’s definitely an appealing Polish name with a fairly straightforward pronunciation.

As @choupette says, it’s “mah-ZHEN-ah” — the ZH sound being close to the [name_u]French[/name_u] “je”.

Thank you - this is interesting!

It sounds cool. I love [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f].

That’s correct :slightly_smiling_face: I don’t particularly like it though, there are much better Polish names around.
