Masculine names for girls?

What do you think of this trend? Is there any masculine names you like on girls?

There’s a lot of boy names and unisex, but heavily leaning boy names I love on girls! Honestly too many to list.

Personally I like frilly girl names my favourite girls names are so overtly feminine and I do not personally see myself choosing a unisex/traditionally masculine name for my daughter. However there are some names that fit this theme I do think are really sweet I do really like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] & [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. I think it does work but isn’t a favourite trend of mine. Also I think it is a shame when classic boy names suddenly becomes feminine to the point where it almost becomes surprising for a male to be called [name_u]Addison[/name_u] or whatever. I think it would be better if gender wasn’t such a strong societal construct so it wouldn’t be ā€˜awkward’ for a boy to be named [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and names can be truly unisex as I tend to find that once a name is heavily used for a girls it’s an awkward boy name.

This has come up a lot on this forum.

I think it’s fine. Gender is a construct. Use the name you love!

I adore [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for girls (both technically unisex, but originally masculine, I think)

I have decided to just love names :joy: [name_u]Forever[/name_u] I was so dissatisfied with girls names and then I came around to believing that names are just names and anyone can put them on like a cute lil jacket. I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u]/Finnlea, just [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_f]Martie[/name_f], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u]— so many ā€œmasculineā€ names for girls!

I love gender-bending names! I think it’s super cute and edgy, both boy names on girls and girl names on boys. I don’t understand this idea that once girls are given a traditionally masculine name, it becomes unusable for boys. If you really think the worst thing a boy can be mistaken for is a girl then… I have some news.

@Elle1 from the research I’ve done, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] has been used on girls since the Middle Ages! For boys, it comes from a surname but for girls, its origins is associated with the tree, the same way flower names became used for girls.

Some of my favorites:
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Adler[/name_u]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Paxton[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Ridley[/name_u]

Also, I’ve been thinking about [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] since I saw you post it elsewhere. I really like it!

Personally I adore traditionally ā€œmasculineā€ names on girls. I love [name_u]Clarke[/name_u] on a girl. The main female protagonist from the show The 100, made that name super wearable for me. And I can’t stop thinking about itšŸ˜…
I also love: (to name a few)
[name_u]Collins[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
Chandler

Can someone honestly please tell me just what is wrong with traditional female names on little girls. If parents do not like the frilly names, there are plenty of non frilly girls names?

It’s honestly my favourite trend, alongside words names.

My advise: use the name you love. Children can rock nearly every name.

My favourites

[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]

And many more.

I love this!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from this category is [name_u]Claude[/name_u] (unisex but reads masculine where I live)

@Asherose nothing wrong with them! Lots of us choose names based on sound, and don’t care which gender the name is associated with. I love [name_u]Claude[/name_u], but also [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] etc.

Nothing wrong at all! I love them too. Some parents just want to have other options and that’s also fine. Names are words, they don’t need to have a gender (but they can, and that’s fine too).

I love [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] but as I know male [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] and female [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] have different origins so… why am I even posting here?

I think it’s fine to use a masculine name for a girl. However, personally I hate masculine names on girls. I guess it’s because I wouldn’t want my daughters to be masculine tomboys but rather feminine. Though if they turn out to be tomboys, I’ll be ok with that. But there are no male names or even unisex names on my top 20 girl names list.
