What do you think of this trend? Is there any masculine names you like on girls?
Thereās a lot of boy names and unisex, but heavily leaning boy names I love on girls! Honestly too many to list.
Girls are just so awesome they can pull off anything!
Personally I like frilly girl names my favourite girls names are so overtly feminine and I do not personally see myself choosing a unisex/traditionally masculine name for my daughter. However there are some names that fit this theme I do think are really sweet I do really like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] & [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. I think it does work but isnāt a favourite trend of mine. Also I think it is a shame when classic boy names suddenly becomes feminine to the point where it almost becomes surprising for a male to be called [name_u]Addison[/name_u] or whatever. I think it would be better if gender wasnāt such a strong societal construct so it wouldnāt be āawkwardā for a boy to be named [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and names can be truly unisex as I tend to find that once a name is heavily used for a girls itās an awkward boy name.
This has come up a lot on this forum.
I think itās fine. Gender is a construct. Use the name you love!
I adore [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for girls (both technically unisex, but originally masculine, I think)
I actually know a guy named [name_u]Addison[/name_u]!!!
I have decided to just love names [name_u]Forever[/name_u] I was so dissatisfied with girls names and then I came around to believing that names are just names and anyone can put them on like a cute lil jacket. I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u]/Finnlea, just [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_f]Martie[/name_f], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u]ā so many āmasculineā names for girls!
I love gender-bending names! I think itās super cute and edgy, both boy names on girls and girl names on boys. I donāt understand this idea that once girls are given a traditionally masculine name, it becomes unusable for boys. If you really think the worst thing a boy can be mistaken for is a girl then⦠I have some news.
@Elle1 from the research Iāve done, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] has been used on girls since the Middle Ages! For boys, it comes from a surname but for girls, its origins is associated with the tree, the same way flower names became used for girls.
Some of my favorites:
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Adler[/name_u]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Paxton[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Ridley[/name_u]
That is fascinating, thank you!!
Also, Iāve been thinking about [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] since I saw you post it elsewhere. I really like it!
Personally I adore traditionally āmasculineā names on girls. I love [name_u]Clarke[/name_u] on a girl. The main female protagonist from the show The 100, made that name super wearable for me. And I canāt stop thinking about itš
I also love: (to name a few)
[name_u]Collins[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
Chandler
Yay nice to see a male [name_u]Addison[/name_u] but in general when you say oh I like [name_u]Madison[/name_u] for a boy people are like really?
This!
Hereās a short list of just a few of the āmasculineā names I love on girls (and many on boys too):
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_u]Cody[/name_u]
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u]
[name_u]Campbell[/name_u]
[name_u]Michal[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_u]Avi[/name_u]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] / [name_u]Rian[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
Can someone honestly please tell me just what is wrong with traditional female names on little girls. If parents do not like the frilly names, there are plenty of non frilly girls names?
Itās honestly my favourite trend, alongside words names.
My advise: use the name you love. Children can rock nearly every name.
My favourites
Theo
[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
And many more.
I do like some masculine names for girls including [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Lennon[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and [name_m]Archie[/name_m]
I love this!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from this category is [name_u]Claude[/name_u] (unisex but reads masculine where I live)
@Asherose nothing wrong with them! Lots of us choose names based on sound, and donāt care which gender the name is associated with. I love [name_u]Claude[/name_u], but also [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] etc.
Nothing wrong at all! I love them too. Some parents just want to have other options and thatās also fine. Names are words, they donāt need to have a gender (but they can, and thatās fine too).
i love traditionally masculine names on girls.
some of my favorites:
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]
I love [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] but as I know male [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] and female [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] have different origins so⦠why am I even posting here?
I think itās fine to use a masculine name for a girl. However, personally I hate masculine names on girls. I guess itās because I wouldnāt want my daughters to be masculine tomboys but rather feminine. Though if they turn out to be tomboys, Iāll be ok with that. But there are no male names or even unisex names on my top 20 girl names list.
