We are really struggling with names but both like [name]Mason[/name]. Is it way too popular? [name]Do[/name] you know many?
Honestly, I only know of one and he doesn’t even live in my state! I’m sure there are Masons around where I live but I don’t know any personally. I personally won’t let popularity keep from using a name I love. I think [name]Claire[/name] is pretty popular now, and that will be my first little’s girls name!
I know one mason, and he is a teenager. [name]Haven[/name]'t heard it lately.
It’s extremely popular where I live. It’s #3! Right below [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Ethan[/name]. I would personally avoid a name that popular unless it was a stable classic over the years like [name]William[/name] or [name]Henry[/name]. When I worked in preschools I met many little boys named [name]Mason[/name] which makes sense because it’s #3 here
I’ve only met one [name]Mason[/name], and he’s in college now. I don’t think [name]Mason[/name] is as popular as people might think, even if the name is the second most popular in the nation.
In 2011, there were 19,396 baby boys named [name]Mason[/name]. Divide that by 50 and you only have about 388 Masons per state (actual numbers per state probably vary +/- 20).
Social Security Administration rankings list it as the second most popular name in 2011. No, I don’t know any personally but obviously they must be out there. It’s popularity has really snuck up on me, I never really gave this name much thought. If popularity doesn’t bother you and you love this name, then you should use it.
In my area, it’s enormously popular. I’ve met about 10 of them all below the age of 10 and one over 10. Several of those are girls too. There are 3 of them this year at the daycare I teach at, 1 girl and 2 boys, and they are 4, 5, and 7.
Personally, I like a lot of other occupational names a lot better – [name]Fletcher[/name], [name]Thatcher[/name], [name]Chandler[/name]… to name a few.
I don’t know a single [name]Mason[/name]. I’ve been a teacher for 9 years and have yet to have a [name]Mason[/name] as a student. Considering the huge number of students that entails, not having a [name]Mason[/name] is saying a lot. If you like it, I say use it!
I know only one, and he’s about eight or nine, though I know of a few more, all baby/toddler age. So I’d say it’s getting popular but I’d look up stats for your area first if popularity bothers you, what it ranks nationally may not be reflective of your city.
It may not seem too popular now, even though it’s number two according to the SSA, but those [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Maysen[/name] aren’t really out there yet, at parks and schools.
It is very popular, and I think it will show given time.
I agree with @thejollyfinch , all these Masons were born LAST YEAR (at least for the 2011 SSA list), and it was on the rise for several years prior. Thus, most of these Masons are still toddlers, and just now entering the park/pre-school scene. I personally know of 5 in my area, all under the age of 3. However, if you really love the name, then use it! [name]Don[/name]'t let popularity make you pick a name you don’t like over a name you love.
I live in Manhattan and hear it all the time! I think in smaller cities it’s less heard of,but in bigger ones it’s very overused.
This.
I’m often in New [name]York[/name] City (my school is in NYC) and I hear it a lot when I’m out and about, and it’s pretty popular in my part of NY too, judging my local birth announcements.
