Matching Boy Siblings

I have a son named [name_m]Jacek[/name_m] (chosen for it’s meaning). [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_m]Benek[/name_m], both for it’s meaning and sound/nickname potential. Too matchy matchy?

Interesting names. I like the sound of both. What are the meanings?

I think they are matchy in a way, but the [name_u]Jace[/name_u] and [name_m]Ben[/name_m] parts are so distinct that i don’t think they’re TOO matchy. It would be like brothers [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Damian[/name_m], which i would use.

[name_m]Jacek[/name_m] simply means hyacinth, derived from Greek. Not sure about [name_m]Benek[/name_m], because it might be a diminutive of a few names, mainly [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] and [name_m]Benedykt[/name_m].

For me, they’re not too matchy, because it’s only the ending of the last syllable that’s the same, not the whole syllable. It’s not like [name_m]Jacek[/name_m]-placek. [name_m]Jacek[/name_m] and [name_m]Benek[/name_m] are not rhyme’y, [name_f]IMO[/name_f] (though I pronounce those names in Polish and I’m not entirely sure how would you pronounce them differently). Besides, [name_m]Benek[/name_m] feels like a diminutive, and there are plenty of diminutives of Polish names that end in -ek (for ex. Cezary nn. Czarek and [name_m]Dariusz[/name_m] nn. Darek - even though both end in -arek, I don’t think many people would point out the similarity because of their distinct given names).

[name_m]Even[/name_m] if [name_m]Benek[/name_m] is going to be his given name, I don’t think it would be a problem.

I think they are too matchy. My eye goes straight to the -ek ending, and makes me think “so are all your kids going to have names like that?” (not that they are bad names, but you get my meaning)

This exactly. For me they are too matchy and I wouldn’t make this choice of similarity for my children. Also if you plan on having more kids is this a theme you’ll feel you need to keep? And if so… are there other boys names (or even girls) that you like that would fit? However if this is THE name and you don’t feel like you are starting a theme that needs to be followed (or youd feel boxed in by) well then I’d just say go for it.
