Matchy names

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are looking for girls names. I have a stepdaughter, [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. The problem is that I like “L” names and I worry about them being too matchy, especially since my husband has an L name. Names that I love are [name_f]Leta[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. What are other’s thoughts?

[name_f]My[/name_f] SO and his brothers all have K names (there were four of them). His mother and her siblings all had D names. I think there were like 10 of them, though I don’t know for sure. Match-y names are okay. Not my cup of tea, but not something I cringe at either. The main drawback for me is if you continue having children, do you keep having L names, or change your mind? SO’s sisters do not have K names, (one has a V name the other an L name). I always found that a bit weird, but it doesn’t bother them so maybe it’s no biggie.

I think [name_f]Leta[/name_f] (is this a variant of [name_f]Leda[/name_f]? From mythology?) and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] are both lovely, but they do straddle that ‘too match-y’ line, for me at least. They end in the same sound, [name_f]Leta[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f] are two syllable, [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f] have the Y in the middle.

I’d play with different syllable counts and sounds.

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Liesl[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilias[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Lizette[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lynette[/name_f]

I don’t love it when siblings have names that start with the same letter. It’s a little too “matchy” for me. But I think you could still do it. It would be a way to kind of connect the two sisters, which would be sweet. Although I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], I think it’s too similar to [name_f]Layla[/name_f]. Here are some other ideas:

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lisette[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

I agree with everything the past two posters said, but another thing worth considering is how old [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is. If she’s like 13, then it’s not a big deal if their names are matchy because they’ll be so far apart in age (and if [name_f]Layla[/name_f] stays with another parent some of the time it’s even less a big deal). But if [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is young then it is a bigger deal.
