Maternity Leave - How long before the due date?

Totally depends on you. I am active and remain active my entire pregnancy. I worked up until I went into labor with both, so 41 and 40w. My doc says a 50# weight lifting limit for me. My body is used to carrying both my 3 y/o and 1 y/o and I will likely continue to do so (at least the 1 y/o) this entire pregnancy unless I have some preterm labor. Nobody around here takes off much time before the baby arrives unless they are on bedrest. I’d much rather have the time after baby arrives. I would also go crazy sitting around waiting for baby to arrive. The last week or two is hard enough to wait, even when distracted by work!

Thanks! I imagine the wait has got to be hard!

Theres really no way of knowing when you will need to take maternity leave. some people work right up til their due date, or if youre life me, i was placed on bed rest two months before my baby was due, and he ended up coming a month early. so i stopped working a month before he was born. I was planning on working up til the end though! but he had other plans:)

At my workplace (a grocery store), a lot of the women I’ve seen pregnant have worked pretty much up until their due dates. I don’t really understand why they do that, though, because in a grocery store you’re on your feet 100% of the time (except for break). I generally get 4-6 hour shifts, and my feet are usually pretty sore by the end of my shift. I’m 22 weeks right now, and still going pretty strong. I don’t know if I will last until the end or not, but I will definitely keep working until I just can’t. I would probably be all right with going into labor at work (I’ve had dreams about that before where I had to ask customers to help me get to a manager or whatnot), I mean, I don’t want to, but if that’s what happens, then that’s what happens. I’m hoping to at least make it until 39 weeks, or just a week before I have the baby (if scheduled for either c-section or to be induced). (Now that I’m thinking about it, in 10 more weeks I will be 32 weeks along and I will be about twice as big as I am now. It’s kind of exciting and scary)
