Mathena/Mathina/Matina

Stumbled upon this name today while looking up [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] and fell in love.

From what I read Mathena and variant Mathina both mean “gift of God” just like [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Mateo[/name_m], and [name_f]Mattea[/name_f], but there’s another version - Matina - that means “Morning” in Italian and “Strong, solid” in Arabic.

I can’t decide between the 3 spellings which one I love most, but they’re all gorgeous and have won me over. I’m leaning towards Mathena because it lends itself to nn Thena which I prefer over [name_f]Tina[/name_f].

I don’t see this one in the Nameberry bank, so I just thought I’d post about it to share my love and get your thoughts on it!

All gorgeous! I love [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] so much. I think Matina rolls off the tongue the easiest, but Thena is so cute :face_holding_back_tears: maybe just Thena as a full name honestly lol

Uh… I am in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and it just reminds me of “mattina” (morning)

Which is very funny, because a friend of mine is named Mattina - and she is Italian too! A very unusual, whimsical word name from this perspective where I live in (like naming a child [name_u]Stormy[/name_u] or Rain). She comes from a somehow multicultural family, and maybe mornings mean something important in her culture, I have no idea.

I would spell it like Mattina. (Yes, this is the correct spelling)

[name_f]My[/name_f] friend goes by [name_u]Matti[/name_u], if it can help you.

I like Matina and Mathena a lot! Both are so pretty, and I like that they’re unique but easy to spell/pronounce. Thena is a lovely nickname (I actually have just Thena on my long list!) and I also think [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] or [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] would be sweet for either name.

Mathina for some reason seems to emphasize the “math” part more than Mathena so I like that less since it reminds me of the school subject

I don’t love Mathena/Mathina, because they just make me think of maths  Matina is nice! It’s also a name here in Greece, I believe as a nickname to Stamatia?
