[name]Matilda[/name] would probably receive the nickname [name]Mattie[/name]. My only concern is that it will be associated with the movie “[name]Matilda[/name]” where the little girl had super powers. WDYT? Should I be concerned? [name]Do[/name] you even like the name?
[name]Elisabeth[/name] is my middle name and is spelled with an “s” to honor my mother ([name]Lisa[/name]) and my aunt ([name]Beth[/name]). Her nickname would probably be [name]Lila[/name], [name]Lila[/name]-[name]Beth[/name], or [name]Beth[/name]. My only concern with this name is the popularity of [name]Elisabeth[/name] year after year.
[name]Arabella[/name] would either receive the nickname [name]Ari[/name] or [name]Bella[/name]. My only concern with [name]Arabella[/name] is the Twilight connections with [name]Bella[/name]. I don’t want my daughter connected with [name]Bella[/name] Swan for the rest of her life. :? Also, I have a niece named [name]Ellie[/name]…is [name]Arabella[/name] too close to [name]Ellie[/name]?
Other names that I love, but I can’t use:
[name]Catherine[/name] ([name]Cate[/name])
[name]Philippa[/name] ([name]Pippa[/name])
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] ([name]Cara[/name]/[name]Carol[/name])
[name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name])
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you have any other suggestions that seem to fit in with my naming style? I’m not sure if I love any of these?
For what it’s worth, I know quite a few Matildas who don’t get the [name]Roald[/name] Dahl connection (there’s also [name]Danny[/name] Champion of the World, [name]James[/name] and the Giant Peach and [name]George[/name]'s Marvellous Medicine that aren’t seen as ‘[name]Roald[/name] Dahl’ book names), but even then it’s actually quite a nice association.
I also don’t think [name]Arabella[/name] will get a huge Twilight association as it isn’t just [name]Bella[/name] itself. With the nickname [name]Ari[/name] or [name]Bella[/name] I think it’s enough distance from [name]Ellie[/name].
[name]Hi[/name] [name]Meg[/name]! I like all 3 of these names, but [name]Elisabeth[/name] is my favorite! I love the spelling, I love its classic, royal feel, and I love that it honors you, your mom and your aunt! I also love the nn possibilities–[name]Lila[/name], [name]Libby[/name], [name]Bess[/name], etc.
(Its popularity does not bother me, because [name]Elisabeth[/name] is such a time-honored classic, plus the “s” puts a unique spin on it.)
[name]Eliza[/name] is another name that comes to my mind for you, if you want a shorter, less popular name.
Here are the names that I like from your suggested list:
[name]Adela[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Theodora[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] is lovely, feminine yet strong and very spunky (especially with the nn [name]Mattie[/name] :D). I actually think that the film ‘[name]Matilda[/name]’ is quite a nice association, personally. There is always the nickname [name]Tilly[/name] too, and I know a little girl named [name]Matilda[/name] who goes by [name]Addie[/name].
I love [name]Elisabeth[/name]. I actually prefer the S spelling to the Z. It’s so classic and just plain beautiful, and you’re honoring family members, which is always a plus. If you’re worried about it’s popularity then you could use one of it’s variants which still honors your family, like [name]Lisabeth[/name] or [name]Lizbet[/name], which I love. It has loads of nickname potential too. My personal favourite is the very spunky Zabby (you could use Sabby, with the S spelling). I also love [name]Elsie[/name] and [name]Elisa[/name] (too close to [name]Ellie[/name]?)
[name]Arabella[/name] is gorgeous! I’ve always loved it’s quirkiness and how fun it sounds. My only worry is, like your, I feel that a little [name]Arabella[/name] would be lost in a sea '[name]Bella[/name]'s for the rest of her life. Again, you could use a variant; [name]Araminta[/name] for example. I also love [name]Arbella[/name], with the nickname [name]Bea[/name] (which you could use on [name]Arabella[/name] too).
I do agree with you that the “[name]Matilda[/name]” connections isn’t a bad one, I just don’t necessarily want my daughter to have to deal with it forever.
I actually do love [name]Lisabeth[/name] with the nickname Sabby…good idea! I do agree that [name]Elsie[/name] is too close to [name]Ellie[/name].
I’m really not a fan of [name]Araminta[/name] or [name]Arbella[/name], thanks though. I so do not want my daughter to be lost in a classroom of children with the same name as her’s.
Thanks for the suggestions! I like:
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Agatha[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
