I’m really starting to love the nickname [name]Tillie[/name]. So much I’m thinking about using it for my daughter…But I need a fuller name for [name]Tillie[/name] so of course the first name to cross my mind was [name]Matilda[/name]- which I love! I love all of the history behind it and I love the sound! Plus I love the character in [name]Roald[/name] Dahl’s novel.
However, my family all think [name]Matilda[/name] sounds “too old”. And they all have mixed feelings on [name]Tillie[/name]…
So I’m hear to ask for peoples opinions…what are your honest thoughts on [name]Matilda[/name] with the nickname [name]Tillie[/name]??
I prefer [name]Ottilie[/name] or [name]Ottoline[/name] for the nickname [name]Tillie[/name]. The “mat” syllable is not particularly attractive to me, despite loving many names others would dismiss as stodgy, frumpy or outdated.
I love it! [name]Matilda[/name] is a wonderful name. And don’t worry about your family; once they meet a little one with the name, they will fall in love with both the baby and the name. My family also thought my son’s name ([name]Francis[/name], nicknamed [name]Frankie[/name]) sounded too old-fashioned. Now they love it.
I adore [name]Matilda[/name] with the nn [name]Tillie[/name]. I dont think its too old, in fact I think it sounds very fresh and cute especially when you think of the little girl from the book/movie [name]Matilda[/name]. Plus it ages well.
I love [name]Matilda[/name], nn [name]Tilly[/name]! I like [name]Tilly[/name] more than [name]Matilda[/name], but if I used [name]Tilly[/name], I’d probably use [name]Matilda[/name] to get to it. I really, really, really like [name]Matilda[/name], but at the same time, I’m not sure it is exactly my style, it just doesn’t quite seem to fit to me, but it’s definitely not because I don’t like the name, it’s just different stylistically from my other choices. I think it’s a fabulous choice for others, though–I would love to meet a [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name]/[name]Tillie[/name]! I obviously prefer the [name]Tilly[/name] spelling, though, haha.
