For [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], my favourite would be [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. For [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], probably [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_u]Dale[/name_u] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f].

 I voted for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] because I like the full name better, but I like the NN options from [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] better, if it’s worth anything

I love both, but I have [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] in my favourites, so I chose [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], although [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is a lot less popular (where I live). In terms of nns, for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] there’s [name_u]Mattie[/name_u]/Tee, [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f], my favourites are [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] has [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]. And with a bit more of a stretch, M, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] (from the -alen- bit).

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is becoming so expected for me, and I adore [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] so that’s what I voted for.
However, I much prefer [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] to [name_f]Lena[/name_f].

[name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is my preferred nn for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], I dislike [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] or [name_u]Mattie[/name_u].
I’m secretly entertaining [name_f]Magda[/name_f] for [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. As a stretch I would go for [name_f]Maud[/name_f] (actually a contracted form of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], I might have used it for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] in addition to [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] if I liked the name enough to use it). [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is sweet but a little generic for me. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is okay, but the sounds are very on trend! In actuality, I would probably use [name_f]Mali[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f], with [name_f]Magda[/name_f] at home. [name_u]Malin[/name_u] is also a possibility, but it’s very common and dull like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] here in Norway.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is my favourite, and my favourite nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is [name_u]Mattie[/name_u].

While I like both, and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is more my style, I prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] I’m really not a fan of [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] as a nn, so I would choose [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] instead for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and for [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], I would use [name_f]Magda[/name_f]. I had a friend named [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] equally, but I MUCH prefer [name_f]Lena[/name_f] to [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. In fact, the [name_f]Lena[/name_f] nn option is warming me up to Magdelena (I also still love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]).

I prefer [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but I’m totally biased as that’s my sisters’ name and she goes by [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or Tildi a lot. Her nickname wasn’t really chosen beforehand but just happened and it fits her perfectly.
[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] sounds very old to me, I like the [name_f]Lena[/name_f] part but [name_f]Magda[/name_f] is just too clunky for me.

[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is one of my favorite names. I think it is classy and so underused. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nns are [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is a name I have never liked, as my brother repeatedly watched the movie [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (it was his favorite). And it seems to be rising in popularity and I hear it all the time on here, so I’ve gotten bored of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I’m glad to see some love for [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. It sounds fresh, soft, and warm, and nn [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is adorable. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] just sounds too harsh to me, if that makes sense.

This is a very close vote! I love both so I don’t think you can go wrong. I vote [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] because it’s that little bit more surprising, and I love [name_f]Magda[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as nicknames

I prefer [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] to [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Lena[/name_f] to [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. Strongly enough that [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] gets my vote!

Thanks for your replies! Which name do you think goes better with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f])?
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?
Or [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?
Thanks!

[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is awesome with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] seems a little insubstantial or childish next to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] in my opinion…

As Penelope is climbing up the charts at the moment, an old name that still sounds modern in a way (not trendy or unique), Matilda seems a better fit. I know she’s not high on the list in the US but Matilda is making a major comeback in a lot of European countries including the UK and Australia, so Matilda feels more modern and up to date than Magdalena who, next to Penelope, seems very clunky.

I live in [name_f]England[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] definitely seems a more ‘British’ choice if that makes any sense…? [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is practically un heard of here, but I can’t decide if that’s in a ‘how exotic’ way or a ‘why would you do that to your child’ way, but there is just something about it that keeps me coming back to the name!

Definitely [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]! I like the NN [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] the most; it just sounds so approachable and fun. Second {and out-there} choice: [name_f]Molly[/name_f] : )

I definitely pick [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] over [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is sleek and sophisticated but spunky and fun. It has so many great associations, including the gutsy [name_f]Empress[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I can imagine one in a [name_m]Norman[/name_m] castle, a Victorian mansion, or on a 21st-century schoolyard. [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] has a certain Slavic charm but is too clunky for me.

I’ve always loved [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] together. [name_m]Both[/name_m] strong names with a slight quirkiness.

I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] the best. [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is great as is [name_f]Tilly[/name_f].
