No, I’m not talking about it being ruined by the movie, [name]Matilda[/name], because the book by [name]Roald[/name] Dahl is the reason the name is on my list. However, this week I saw the movie Seeking a [name]Friend[/name] for the End of the World, and in it, the asteroid heading for earth was called [name]Matilda[/name]. Is it dumb that I was mad about the name of the asteroid and that it sorta ruined the name for me a little? It mostly had to do with the movie being not what I thought it would be, and I really didn’t like it very much. Did anyone else see the movie and have any of the same issues? I don’t totally hate the name now, but it made me kinda “eh” about it.
I really like [name]Matilda[/name]; I wouldn’t worry about the asteroid in the movie. It’s a classic name that endured for decades. I also love the nn [name]Tilly[/name], by the way!
I don’t think the name is ruined. I HIGHLY doubt that movie will hit any kind of epic proportions and no one will remember it in a few years - ya know , when the world doesn’t end.
I understand being annoyed right now since its fresh in your mind, but I really doubt anyone will remember this movie down the road, and certainly not associate it with [name]Matilda[/name] the same way they associate, well, “[name]Matilda[/name]”!
Didnt see the movie, but as much as I adore [name]Steve[/name] Carell, it didnt look like it would be very good! (Plus anything about the end of the world makes me a panic-y lunatic, haha)
I would probably forget the asteroids name like, the next day. I think you are fine.
I don’t really like the name [name]Matilda[/name], but if you love it, I don’t think this movie will have any future effect on using it
I absolutely adore the name [name]Matilda[/name]. (I’m biased of course, haha. I’m a longtime [name]Roald[/name] Dahl fan! )
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but even then I don’t think it’d ruin the name for me. Unless the next hurricane is named [name]Matilda[/name] and people automatically associate the name with a hurricane, I think you’re okay.
Keep it on your list! :]
I think it’s a bit too random to ruin anything. It’s not a person, it’s not even a main character…I also don’t think it’s that popular a movie.
[name]Matilda[/name] has endured for hundreds of years. I highly doubt the name will be ruined by an asteroid.
I like the name [name]Matilda[/name] and haven’t seen the movie Seeking a [name]Friend[/name] for the End of the World yet (although I did think that it looked good, so I’m slightly disappointed that it didn’t live up to your expectations). The reference is so obscure that I doubt it will have any affect on the general perception of the name, but I do sort of get what you’re saying if what you mean is that your own personal perception of the name has been sort of daunted by its use in the movie. I know exactly what you mean, and I hate it when that happens. I’m not sure if there’s neccessarily a “cure”, but I guess maybe the best thing to do would just be to think about all of the positive correlations with the name and its many uses outside of the film to see if you can sort of overwhelm the bad feelings you associate with it now because of the movie. It’s use as a part of a plot point in a film is just a tiny blip in [name]Matilda[/name]'s long history of use.
I love [name]Tilly[/name], too! I used to always think that if I used [name]Matilda[/name], I would nn her [name]Matty[/name]/[name]Mattie[/name], but now I would definitely use [name]Tilly[/name].
Haha thanks…I kinda just meant it was ruined for me a little, personally.
That is exactly what I meant about my own perception of the name. I know it wouldn’t be ruined for most people. I still do love the name, I guess more than anything I was annoyed at the use of it, but I guess they had to name it something haha. Thanks for the suggestions to think about the positives!
That is most of the reason why I didn’t like it. I just expected it to be funnier and it definitely got depressing…ahhh! I was just about to say that [name]Steve[/name] Carell should stick to strictly comedy, only if the movie is really funny, but then I remembered how much I love [name]Little[/name] Miss [name]Sunshine[/name] so I’m taking that back
I didn’t see the movie, but I understand … a movie can either, for a lack of a better expression, “make or break” a name. At least, this is the case for me anyways. Same with the actors and actresses as well, but for an example of movies ruining names for me: TWILIGHT! I honestly think I would’ve liked the name [name]Edward[/name] if it hadn’t been for the movie, and I definitely would’ve liked the name [name]Isabella[/name] … I say movie because the book was fine.
It’s totally reasonable for a movie to ruin a name. It’s unfortanate, but explainable.
