I’ve followed nameberry for years but haven’t posted before. Here goes. . . My husband and I are going to start trying to conceive in [name]January[/name]. We both love the name [name]Mattea[/name] as a first name for a girl but I have a few concerns. First, do you think it is easy to pronounce in the US? Also, out last name starts with Mc and ends with n. Is that too much alliteration? My biggest worry is that everyone will call her [name]Mattie[/name] instead of [name]Mattea[/name]. So many Matties. I would love to hear your ideas for middle names. Our last name is 2 syllables if that helps. Thanks for your ideas.
[name]Mattea[/name] is not my style. Overall, it’s nice thought. I do however love [name]Matteo[/name] - the male version. I personally do not think it is difficult to pronounce. Additionally, if someone calls her [name]Mattie[/name] just correct them so it doesn’t stick. Of course when she gets older she can decide if she wants to go by [name]Mattie[/name], [name]Mattea[/name], [name]Tea[/name] or whatever she wants to be called
- I would naturally pronounce it like [name]Matteo[/name] but with an a.
- I don’t think a Mc___n ln would be a problem at all.
- I think [name]Mattea[/name] is short enough that you can just ask people not to call her [name]Mattie[/name] until she is old enough to make the decision on her own. (Though after that it is really her decision, not yours.)
From your choice of [name]Mattea[/name] I assume you like fun, shorter names and are at least a bit adventurous with your choices… sooo… I like…

I’m not coming up with anything great for middles, but just wanted to pop in to say that I don’t think that anyone who has a basic understanding of phonetics and/or has seen the name [name]Matteo[/name] before will have problems with pronunciation. Granted, that probably rules out more people than we’d like to think, but they’ll have problems even if you name her [name]Grace[/name] And FWIW, I’d naturally gravitate towards [name]Tea[/name] ([name]Tay[/name]-uh) as a nickname, not [name]Mattie[/name].
I think the pronounciation could become an issue. Is Matteah too much of a stretch? The H seems like it could borderline on made-up but it could also help clear up those pronounciation issues. Or maybe just [name]Teah[/name]? I don’t think the FN/LN alliteration is a problem though. I actually really like the sound of alliteration.
I don’t think there’d be any problems with the pronunciation of [name]Mattea[/name]. [name]Lovely[/name] name, by the way!

Although [name]Mattea[/name] isn’t my cup of tea, I think it is a good name. I consider it easy to pronounce. I like alliterative names, my son’s initials are L.L. The reason why I like alliterative names is that they are more memorable. It is proven that our brains have an easier time remembering them. [name]Stan[/name] [name]Lee[/name] from [name]Marvel[/name] comics gave many of his characters alliterative names so they would be memorable: [name]Peter[/name] [name]Parker[/name], [name]Silver[/name] Surfer, [name]Scott[/name] [name]Summers[/name], [name]Pepper[/name] Potts etc. As of for the nickname issue I would just correct people while your daughter is young.
Thanks for your thoughts on [name]Mattea[/name]. I really like [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] and [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Paige[/name]. I also thought of [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Winter[/name]. Thanks.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Mattea[/name] with nn [name]Tea[/name] or [name]Tia[/name]. Your own suggestion of [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is wonderful.
[name]Mattea[/name] is okay. I went to High School with a girl named [name]Matea[/name], and everyone said her name correctly. I don’t think people would call her “[name]Mattie[/name]” as it isn’t really heard in [name]Mattea[/name]. I can understand it for [name]Madison[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name] because they actually make the “Mad” sound in it.
Anyway, I like [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Elise[/name].
I love it and doubt you’d have pronunciation issues. It’s phonetically obvious that this name is pronounced [name]Mat[/name]-TEH-ah, right?
Our daughter’s name is [name]Mattea[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]. I’m American and my wife is [name]German[/name] and we wanted to have something neutral. It is original, especially in Germany and the US. [name]Both[/name] of our families had to ask what the name was a couple times though. It doesn’t stick so quickly with some people but it has grown on them. Everyone can pronounce it well, again, just for some people it’s hard to remember. We are very happy with the name, hope our daughter is too when she gets older :). I like giving nicknames, but I won’t with [name]Mattea[/name], it is short and such a pretty name already.
