Hello Nameberries! I posted a couple of months ago – expecting baby #2 in mid-[name]May[/name] (brother to [name]Sally[/name] [name]Rose[/name]) – we are going with an “M” name in memory of my mom, [name]Marilyn[/name]. When I posted back in [name]December[/name], I was stuck between [name]Max[/name] and [name]Matthew[/name]… you were all so helpful! I was rooting for [name]Max[/name] (or [name]Mack[/name]/[name]Mac[/name]), but my husband is not on board… for a while we were going to go with [name]Matthew[/name], but I’m still not feeling 100%. The problem is, I do like [name]Matthew[/name]: it’s strong, classic, sensible -but so very ordinary… should we go for it anyway? I don’t want to choose an inferior name just because it’s NOT [name]Matthew[/name]. Right now we like [name]Murray[/name]… in fact, it grows on me more and more everyday. I like it because it’s sweet and not very popular, but I’m also wondering if [name]Matthew[/name] is a better name in the long-run (even though it’s ordinary)… thoughts? suggestions? What are some of your favorite M names??
Hmmm… well. I’m not big on surname names, and [name]Murray[/name] seems to remind me of [name]Meg[/name] [name]Murry[/name] from “A Wrinkle in Time.” I’m sorry I prefer [name]Matthew[/name]. However, if you are worried about ordinariness, what about [name]Matthias[/name] or [name]Matteo[/name]? I love those names. Other M names I adore…

[name]Matthew[/name] has never been a favourite name of mine and I’m not sure why. There’s nothing wrong with this Biblical classic but I find it overused and ordinary. Sorry but I don’t really care for [name]Murray[/name]. [name]Sally[/name] [name]Rose[/name] has a vintage feel so here are some other suggestions for “M” names.

My favorite m names are [name]Matthias[/name], [name]Micah[/name] (nn [name]Mick[/name]), [name]Malachi[/name] (nn [name]Mal[/name] or [name]Chi[/name]), and [name]Malcolm[/name] (nn [name]Mal[/name]). [name]Matthew[/name] is still a great choice though. Good luck!

I love “M” names including [name]Matthew[/name] but since I have a [name]Mark[/name] already they are off limits for me. Have you considered [name]Mark[/name] or [name]Marcus[/name]? There aren’t very many little Marks anymore. Mine is 6 and we haven’t met any. [name]Mark[/name] is also very close to [name]Marilyn[/name].
I love [name]Matthew[/name] and [name]Murray[/name]! I would probably just use [name]Matthew[/name] [name]Murray[/name] or [name]Murray[/name] [name]Matthew[/name], lol. I love the alliteration and I wouldn’t want to give either name up! I love the classic [name]Matthew[/name] with the more classic [name]Sally[/name] [name]Rose[/name]… I think [name]Murray[/name] has a more modern feeling that doesn’t flow as well with [name]Sally[/name]. I really love [name]Max[/name]/[name]Maxwell[/name], too bad that didn’t work out!

I would consider [name]Marcel[/name] over [name]Murray[/name], it’s french but easily prn in English, it’s not too stylish in [name]France[/name] right now but since [name]Marion[/name] Cotillard just used it for her baby maybe it will become hip in the US?
I tend to agree that while [name]Matthew[/name] is a sensible solid name, there’s nothing very exciting about it. As others have suggested, my first thought was [name]Matthias[/name]. I’m not taken with [name]Murray[/name] but would probably prefer it over [name]Matthew[/name].
Other M names that spring to mind are [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Mitchell[/name], [name]Milton[/name] and [name]Murphy[/name]. Good luck with it!

As for the [name]Matthew[/name] variations ([name]Matthias[/name], etc.) -while they are great, I think there are more nn options with [name]Matthew[/name] ([name]Matt[/name], [name]Matty[/name]…) Ashthedreamer -I also love [name]Moses[/name]/[name]Moshe[/name] -but they have already been nixed! And [name]Milo[/name] is great, but it’s already taken by my 1 year-old nephew. Hmmm… [name]Milton[/name]… [name]Martin[/name]… [name]Marcel[/name]… [name]Maurice[/name]… I do like these!
