Maud?

[name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Windsor[/name_u] and his wife have just had a baby girl - [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f]… [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is one of those ‘vintage’ names that I think I am afraid is just a tad ugly…It’s not pretty, classic or elegant…I just don’t see the appeal!

Is it just me?? Really like the other names though!

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f] (with this preferred spelling). I think its very old-fashioned and simple and unique.

I’m not a [name_f]Maud[/name_f] fan either

I love [name_f]Maud[/name_f]!

Crikey - what is the appeal of [name_f]Maud[/name_f]?? It just has a very blunt sound to me!

I would prefer [name_f]Maud[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]…I think [name_f]Maudie[/name_f] would be a super cute nickname for either [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Maud[/name_f], though. Overall I like the name, but probably wouldn’t want to use it myself.

[name_f]Maud[/name_f]/[name_f]Maude[/name_f] is a gorgeous name. However, the English accent is such a buzzkill. The French (and Danish) pronunciation is absolutely eloquent. To me, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is the meh-name. Couldn’t care less for it.

Hmmm - maybe that’s what is - in the English accent it makes it sound like a fungus!

Yes, [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is an acquired taste probably due to the sound of it. It sounds like a “downer” name - clunky, abrupt, harsh and crusty - so I don’t know why I love it! I think my love comes from the 70’s TV show “[name_f]Maude[/name_f]” starring [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I used to watch that strong, courageous, sassy and opinionated character of [name_f]Maude[/name_f] with my family so the name only holds happy memories for me.

[name_f]Maude[/name_f] with the e is more my style. It somehow softens it just a bit. I love it, but I do gravitate towards some wacky old lady style names! I think [name_f]Maude[/name_f] is going to be the “new vintage” soon enough, it sounds a bit tougher & stronger than the floral/lilting vintage names that are popular now. I think vintage lovers looking for something unique will pick things like [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Edna[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] & [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f] over [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] & [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] soon enough!

I don’t like it and i never got it…
first time I ever saw the name was reading up on [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Aldridge[/name_m] as her middle name is [name_f]Maud[/name_f].
I wondered why would they pair a pretty name like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] with a ugly name like [name_f]Maud[/name_f]… certain other names I can get behind if they are spunky but [name_f]Maud[/name_f]???

I think [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is stunning! I love [name_f]Maud[/name_f], but prefer spelled [name_f]Maude[/name_f]. I think it’s an acquired taste. When I first considered it, I didn’t like it, but then it grew on me. Now I love it! It’s one of those names. You love it or you hate it.

I like it as a middle name. It has a lot more pop and solid impact than [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Grace[/name_f], and more than my own long-term favourite [name_f]Mae[/name_f], too.

It reminds me of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], who I quite admire as an author, and it has a certain appeal in its crustiness. Of course, I also like [name_f]Enid[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], so yeah. I admit it’s not flowery-pretty, but I actually kind of like that about it.

I would have to be INCREDIBLY rich to use it as a first name though. A [name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_u]Windsor[/name_u]? Sure! In fact, when we were name-speculating [name_m]Will[/name_m] & [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]'s baby, I hoped for [name_f]Maud[/name_f] in there somewhere.

I guess that’s just a matter of different taste  I’m sure there are others who feel about [name_f]Lily[/name_f] the way you feel about [name_f]Maud[/name_f].

I prefer it with the -e ending too but I think [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is very debonair. It’s definitely got that sophisticated appeal.

I don’t exactly know how to feel about it. I find it very fashionable (possibly the new celebrity “it” name), yet it’s an extremely bland name. I like it alot better as a middle name; for example [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] would have been so much more appealing to me.

I like old lady vintage names, but this is one I never cared for much, it sounds dull and clunky. The e on the end helps, but still, it’s not a name that sounds elegant to me.

For some reason, I don’t hate [name_f]Maud[/name_f]. I don’t love it, but I don’t really hate it, either. I like other vintage (like, they’re not terribly in style yet they’re so vintage…) names more, though ([name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], and [name_f]Meryl[/name_f], particularly!). Plus, I like her full name–[name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. I would have preferred to see [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] ([name_f]Maud[/name_f]), but that’s just me. With [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], she can always opt for the nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]/M.E./M/[name_f]Em[/name_f], which I think is sweet, if she dislikes [name_f]Maud[/name_f].
