Maura

This name was used for an “original character” in a fanfiction I read weeks ago… And I’ve been crushing on it ever since! It’s on my list now but I’m not sure if I want to keep it on.

I’m also not 100% sure how to pronounce it… I looked it up on YouTube but that didn’t help. It’s either like more-ah or mar-ah… I think… Thoughts? On the pronunciation or anything else?

I know one [name_f]Maura[/name_f] and she says it more-ah. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] (no u) would be mar-ah to me.

I like it, but it sounds a bit dated to me. The only one I know is in her mid-40s, so it feels like a mom name. However, I also like other ‘dated’ choices, so I don’t think I can fairly criticize [name_f]Maura[/name_f].

Its nms, but its quite soft and gentle.
Id pronounce it more-ah. For mar-ah I would use the name [name_f]Mara[/name_f].

Maura is so under appreciated! I’ve only ever heard more-uh.

I love [name_f]Maura[/name_f]! So soft, with some strength. Definitely an underappreciated gem. I’ve only heard it pronounced more-uh. I also love [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and [name_f]Moira[/name_f]!

It feels dated for me too! The [name_f]Maura[/name_f] character is actually a kid, like 6 years old, if I remember correctly. So I feel like that influences how I can see it as a baby name and feel less of that “dated” vibe

Maura is really pretty! I know someone with this name and she pronounces it like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] with a M, More-ah. I really like [name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as combos with [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. I say go for it!

I’d pronouce it more-uh, rhyming with [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. I kind of like it

I kinda love it !

I pronounce it as Moy-ruh

I say ‘more-uh’; it rhymes with [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. There’s an Irish woman on the British [name_u]Love[/name_u] Island with the name and that’s how she says it.

I’ve heard that! Is it more “Irish” to say moy-ruh?

I say “more-uh.” I think it is quite lovely. It may get more popular as there is a [name_f]Moira[/name_f]. She pronounces it differently than [name_f]Maura[/name_f], but it is similar.

Yep definitely. That is now the Irish pronouce it. I think if it was pronounced any other way then they wouldn’t recognize it as [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. It’s definitely not [name_f]Mara[/name_f] sound.

I thought so! I am of Irish descent, so I think my mom would really like my future child to have an Irish name! This pronunciation is very beautiful

It’s lovely. There are some lovely Irish names out there if you need any other inspiration.

Maura rhymes with [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (more-uh). mar-uh would be [name_f]Mara[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Maura[/name_f], but what keeps me from adding it to my list is that I feel it would get confused with other names. [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], etc.

I love [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. It is one of my favourite names. I pronounce it more-ah. I think it is an Irish name and this is the correct pronunciation.

I know one and it’s basically pronounced like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] with an M, at least that’s how I remember it when I’m trying to spell it! I think it’s actually a really sweet name, uncommon but has that familiar sound that it doesn’t seem weird, if that makes sense
