Mavis?

In attempts to distract myself from illness, I was surfing Netflix earlier today and unexpectedly came across the movie Hotel Transylvania. It was only as the credits came on that I realised how beautiful one of the main character’s names was - [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]. I don’t know if it’s the same in the US, but here in [name_f]England[/name_f] it sounds rather dated to most. However, the more I thought about it the more I loved it. I love all names that begin with a “may” sound and the -vis ending is just lovely. It’s not “popular” per se but it’s certainly heard of and people wouldn’t have any issues spelling or saying it. It’s got a gorgeous meaning too - “songbird” - in [name_m]French[/name_m]. Finally, it’s feminine but not overly girly and it has a sense of class about it - you wouldn’t be embarrassed putting it on an official form.

But I need your help, Berries! What do you think of the name? What are your immediate reactions? Is it not ready for revival? Are there any aspects of it that you don’t like? This isn’t an overly important issue but I could also use some help with middle names.

Thank you all in advance!

This reminds me of learning to type from [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_m]Beacon[/name_m]. It was a program in my elementary school.

There’s also [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] Staples, an R&B singer.

I think it’s ripe for a return.

It immediately makes me think of is Hotel Transylvania. I love [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] though!

I think it is too  Thank you!

Me too, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing - I loved both the movie and the name! Thanks for the input

[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] is definitely ready for a comeback. I feel I should like it more than I do - I really like [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and the meaning is simply wonderful - but for some reason I can’t quite get myself to like it was much as I want to. But it’s a beautiful name!

[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_f]Janetta[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

Oh my goodness, I thought of the exact same thing!

Your reasoning for liking this name is convincing, but the name still sounds outdated and not overly pleasant to me.

I really love the name [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]. I think it is the perfect combination of quirky charm and classic elegance

[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] is more on trend than it looks. Anything with a long A follwed by a V. It’s a great name and I also like [name_f]Avis[/name_f].

I also thought of the [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_m]Beacon[/name_m] typing program.
But! It’s a cute name with a great v sound right in the middle. Reminds me of [name_u]Raven[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]! And quite like your possible middle combos with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Very timeless.
