Maya or Aviva

Very torn.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

She’ll be little sister to [name_f]Talia[/name_f]. Need to decide ASAP!

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!!!

Both [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] are lovely, but I’ll have to side with the latter - [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is so fresh and bouncy and works beautifully with both [name_f]Talia[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

[name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is nice with [name_f]Talia[/name_f]

Definitely [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. It’s such a lovely name, much better than [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. And it sounds less ‘matchy’ with [name_f]Talia[/name_f].

Another vote for [name_f]Aviva[/name_f].

Both names are lovely but I love [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]! It is bouncy, cheerful, and friendly.

I vote for [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. It sounds perfect with [name_f]Talia[/name_f].

In the UK, [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is a life insurance company so that’s all I think of when I hear it, especially because they have a very annoying advert. When I look past that it is a nice name, I just couldn’t name my own child it.

Have you considered [name_f]Ziva[/name_f]? Similar sound, I really like it.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] for me. [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is an insurance company where I live.

Original poster here. We are in the US, so the insurance company name isn’t a factor at all. I realize that for those of you in the UK, that could “ruin” the name for you, but please keep in mind no need for us to factor it. Also, for some additional background: [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is the name I had been planning for a very long time, but since [name_u]January[/name_u], two acquaintances (not close friends) used it, and I got worried it was too popular. It is kind of hard “letting go” of that name, but I also feel pulled to [name_f]Aviva[/name_f].

Also, we are less than a week away, probably not up for throwing any other names into consideration. I generally love a lot of the popular modern Hebrew names, but my husband has already nixed many of them. He prefers names that are more universal, but somehow [name_f]Talia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f], both strongly Hebrew to my ears, pass the test for him.

[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]! I love that name.

I have always always always loved [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. I had a great friend named [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] in my late teens and I enjoyed saying her name so much! [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is pretty but [name_f]Aviva[/name_f], to me, is on another level!

I seriously love them both. I’ve only ever met one or two Mayas and zero Avivas, for what it’s worth (and [name_f]Talia[/name_f] is one of my all-time favourite names). They both work with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as the mn.

Could you either share the surname or describe it (how many syllables, what does it start and end with, what sounds are prominent in it)? That might break the tie for me.

No wrong choice here, both names (and combos) are just lovely, and both pair well with [name_f]Talia[/name_f].

Personally, [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is the name I will use if I ever have a daughter–it just seems perfect for my multicultural family with its very international vibe, easy pronunciation, and short and sweet style. And it seems to meet both the “universal” preference of your husband AND has Hebrew roots as well.

That said, it’s true that [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is a much more common name than [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. Myself, I wouldn’t veto it based on acquaintances using it, but I can also understand why you might prefer something more unique within your circle. [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is beautiful, striking, and distinctive. I also love the combination of [name_f]Talia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] as sisters, because though the names pair well together in style, they “match” less in terms of repeating sounds than do [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Talia[/name_f].

What a hard choice–maybe you have to wait and see when you meet your little one? In any case, I love your name choices and congratulations!

[name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is my vote. I agree it sounds less matchy with [name_f]Talia[/name_f]. It’s also sounds more fresh and lively. Either way you have a great choice no matter what. Good luck!

Definitely prefer [name_f]Maya[/name_f]! I love the name [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is not really my style.

I vote for [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. It is unique, refreshing, and full of life. It has a strong energy and is very beautiful. I think [name_f]Talia[/name_f] & [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] are a good match stylistically.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] is a nice name but one most people have heard before which is okay but definitely something to consider. It feels safe. It’s much more popular and if you already know of two, there will probably be a few more when she’s in school. I shy away from names in the top 100 but that’s just a personal thing. Between the name [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and longer names that include it, I know three little ones. [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] and a [name_f]Samiya[/name_f] nn [name_f]Miya[/name_f] which is pronounced like [name_f]Maya[/name_f].

I agree that both names are nice and would make a good match with [name_f]Talia[/name_f] but I think you should choose the one that inspires you the most.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, do you have anything in mind for a mn…maybe that could help determine which fn would work best.

Mn is [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

Last name is simple, two syllables. I don’t think it sounds better with one than the other
