Due with number 2. I have a girl already and I’m having the hardest time thinking of names that are ok with my husband that aren’t [name_u]Michael[/name_u] or [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. Annnd [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is already my husband’s name. And [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is a family name that I’d rather us for a mn.
See, our girl is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and has a family name for a mn. But [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is just something we LOVED. It has connections to [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Susan[/name_f], her grandmas, but the name is mostly because we just liked it. I want to do the same for a boy and not have him be named directly after someone unless it’s his dad. That for some reason I’m fine with.
So far I haven’t run by husband:
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
None of them have family connections and I’m so bummed he may shoot them down. I think my fave is [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. It has some cute obscure connections to me that I know my husband won’t buy into . My dad is a train enthusiast so he has lots of [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] trains. Both my parents are [name_m]Leos[/name_m] on the zodiac. And it means little lion. No connection to anything I just think that’s awesome.
I guess I’m just kind of wondering if anyone has opinions. Or had been in my shoes of a DH just wanting ONLY to name baby after family that already has that name (and is still alive and sees us btw)
When I ran names by my husband I would always present a list made up of names I actually liked and those I didn’t in order to gauge his reactions (which sometimes really surprised me!). You never know, he might like [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] or one of the others on your list.
Your baby’s name should be a choice that you are both happy with, and it seems like your approach to your daughter’s name (indirect honour) may work best for you again. Are there other names besides [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] that you can draw from? What do you think of [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] as a variation of [name_u]Michael[/name_u]?
I agree about the indirect honor name. Unfortunately I am [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], husband is [name_u]Michael[/name_u], so I think [name_m]Mitchel[/name_m] might push us over the edge for similarities . But maybe I can think of other similar names!
Would you consider other names with lionine meanings? such as [name_m]Llew[/name_m], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m], or [name_m]Leander[/name_m]?
Or perhaps [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (which like [name_u]Michael[/name_u], is an archangel name and has cute nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m])?
[name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] are all Hebrew names. Perhaps you and your husband could agree on another Hebrew choice, such as [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], or [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]?
I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and one of my favorites is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], so I’d say it would be my pick. I also like [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] a lot.
I really like [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] for you! But if you are looking for an honor name what about [name_u]Micah[/name_u]?
I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] are sibset perfection!
