Maybe List: D Names

More names that I can’t decide on. Should I promote them to my real list or forget about them all together? Let me know your thoughts! Reasons are most helpful.

[name]Dalton[/name]
[name]Dante[/name]
[name]Dayton[/name]
[name]Demetrius[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Duke[/name]

I also happen to have a D name, and my mom has a D name, and my maternal grandparents both have D names so it would mean something to be able to use a D name on a future child. However, I tend not to fully fall in love with any of them - but maybe you can change that!

I love [name]Dorian[/name]. I know the literary association isn’t the best, but I do love [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde and even minus that association, it’s still a lovely name with a very refined sound. The others aren’t really my thing, but [name]Dorian[/name] is definitely list-worthy.

[name]Whit[/name] is name meanings forJonshi

I love:

[name]Dante[/name] - strong, literary, well-known, masculine but not trite. I like that it would pass without comment in my [name]East[/name] Coast hometown, but doesn’t feel easily lost in the crowd or have a lot of overlap with currently trendy names.

[name]Demetrius[/name] - [name]Demetrius[/name] is my favourite long form of this name, and [name]Dmitri[/name] my favourite short form. I like the flavour of antiquity and the -us ending for extra weight and impact. [name]Demetrius[/name] is the most “statement” of the three to me, and least easy-going, but very appealing and with a nice rolling sound. Nice with names tinged with mythology, like [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], etc. or with [name]Lazarus[/name]/[name]Thaddeus[/name].

[name]Donovan[/name] - feels more modern than my other 2 picks, with a surname feel that I don’t completely love, but blends well with a variety of other current names without feeling completely overdone. I would pick this one if all the other names in my sibset/list were a bit too modern to blend well with [name]Demetrius[/name] and at odds with [name]Dante[/name]'s European flavour.

The others aren’t my taste at all. [name]Dalton[/name] reminds me of Road House, [name]Dayton[/name] is all Ohio, [name]Duke[/name] is GI [name]Joe[/name] and/or a large dog (dooky is also playground slang for poop), and [name]Dorian[/name] is very [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name] to me.

Keep:

[name]Dante[/name]
[name]Demetrius[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name]

[name]Dalton[/name] - I think of [name]Dalton[/name] Academy aka Tolerance Hogwarts from Glee
[name]Dante[/name] - [name]Dante[/name]'s Inferno. I wouldnt want a name that has an association with hell.
[name]Dayton[/name] - Makes me think of [name]Dayton[/name] [name]Beach[/name]
[name]Demetrius[/name] - Not bad.
[name]Donovan[/name] - It’s ok.
[name]Dorian[/name] - cute
[name]Duke[/name] - Not bad.

I love [name]Dante[/name], [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Duke[/name], but the latter does seem more like a dog’s name. However, if you can name your child [name]Rex[/name], [name]Spike[/name] or something similar then why not [name]Duke[/name]?! I used to love the combo’s [name]Duke[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] and [name]Duke[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name].

[name]Dante[/name] is my favourite of the three, it’s so charming and handsome. [name]Donovan[/name] is an interesting choice, but I’d hate for people just to think of [name]Jason[/name] [name]Donovan[/name], and people in the UK might just do so. I’ve met a little [name]Donovan[/name] and he was a cool dude, he’d be like 10 years old now.

I like [name]Dorian[/name] but I think it would be hard to live with–[name]Dori[/name]/[name]Dora[/name] are female names and it’s easy to get to dork for bullies.
I have a 2nd cousin who was just named [name]Duke[/name]. It’s cute but I honestly feel like it’s more a dog name than a person name.

I like [name]Donovan[/name] out of these…I know of a little boy named this after his great grandpa [name]Donald[/name] and he wears it so well.
