Mayim

What do you think of [name]Mayim[/name]? [name]How[/name] would you pronounce this? What is your impression? Opinion? What nicknames come to mind?

I’d pronounce it MY-eem.

My opinion is it’s a pretty name but eventually I’d get really pissed at people pronouncing it with a “[name]May[/name]” sound.

[name]Mayim[/name] literally means water in hebrew, and for this it seems a little strange. It would be like naming your child Water.

I know it has a history of being a name, and water is quite symbolic, so i can appreciate it for those reasons. I just think it’s a little odd.

stripedsocks is right, its pronounced MY-eem. You could easily get away with MY-em though.

I like it, I think the most natural nn for me would be [name]Mya[/name]

It reminds me of the actress formerly known as [name]Blossom[/name] who now stars in The Big Bang [name]Theory[/name].

I like the meaning. Would [name]Mimi[/name] work as a nickname or is it too much of a stretch?

yup that’s the only thing that comes to mind when I hear the name. Her face instantly popped into my head when I saw the name of this thread.

Me three! First thing I thought of.

The name is pretty well know for actress [name]Mayim[/name] Bialik…but even then I think its usuable. She’s not that big of a star and therefore I don’t think it would register for everyone. And even if it did, is that necessarily a bad thing?

I think of miyim stuffed animals…my kids have a lot of them. I still like the name mayim, though!

I like this name BECAUSE of [name]Mayim[/name] Bialik! She plays a brain on Big Bang [name]Theory[/name] - but she’s incredibly intelligent in real life as well (carrying a PhD in Neuroscience) - sure she’s an actress but one that I feel gives a good role model for young girls and I’ve always really admired her name.

I like it, I also thought of the actress because that is the only time I’ve seen the name.
The only thing that I would dislike about it, is that people will probably mispronounce it frequently. I’m sure you’ll get [name]May[/name]-um (which sounds like Mayhem) - then again people will mispronounce almost anything that isn’t super common (my daughter’s name is [name]Phoebe[/name] and I’ve gotten FOE-bee a few times).

If it was pronounced MY-eem, which would be the best way to pronounce it, it’d sound like some forgein name
