OK- My husband is in love with the idea of naming our son McIntire [name]Thomas[/name] nn [name]Mac[/name]. He would be a little brother to [name]Emerson[/name] [name]Scout[/name] nn [name]Emy[/name]. The name would honor my husband’s late grandfather. I like that the name is unique and has a good nn, but I am not completely sold on McIntire as a first name. What do you think, too out there, or great way to honor family?
Other names we are considering:
Cortlandt- another family name- I don’t think that it has any good nn though
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Josey[/name]- husband likes it- I think it is too girly
Jenns or [name]Jens[/name]- again, husband likes it- I think it is too girly
[name]Thomas[/name] will most likely be the middle for any of these names, although that is not set in stone.
Our last name is a short, one syllable, common, boy’s first name.
[name]Josey[/name] & [name]Jens[/name] feel strange on a boy and here in the US I would have to wonder if they had the Y for J pronunciation like Yosey & Yens.
Cortlandt nn [name]Cort[/name], Co, Lan? Sounds good in your sibset.
I think McIntire works. It’s familiar, surnames for first names is a huge trend that’s been holding on for awhile. You might come across some people who aren’t fans of it, but really it only matters what you & your husband think!
McIntire most certainly works. I love the nickname [name]Mac[/name]. McIntire [name]Thomas[/name] is very handsome, and I like it with [name]Emerson[/name] [name]Scout[/name].
[name]Love[/name] McIntire! For folks who don’t always like surname names, having a family connection should appease them. (I’m a fan of do-what-you-want.) Cortlandt is great too, with a nice nickname of [name]Cort[/name]. [name]Emerson[/name] [name]Scout[/name] is great!
I like [name]Leif[/name] and Cortlandt from your list. [name]Josey[/name] is extremely feminine and [name]Jens[/name] seems incomplete to me. Like it should be short for [name]Jenson[/name] (which I like)?
I really really dislike McIntire. It reminds me of [name]Joey[/name] McIntyre from The [name]New[/name] Kids On The Block. I am tired of seeing all the [name]Mac[/name] names be used as first names. It doesn’t even sound like a first name. It doesn’t even have a pleasant sound.
I’m with you. I’m not sold on the name either. Personally, I find most Mc/[name]Mac[/name] names very unattractive. There are so many around with various spellings (mostly girls) that they begin to sound alike. I would use McIntire as a mn choice. McIntire [name]Thomas[/name] has repetitive t’s so I don’t really like the flow of them together. Another option is [name]Cormac[/name] nn [name]Mac[/name].
Thanks for the replies. [name]Do[/name] you think McIntire (boy) and [name]Emerson[/name] (girl) work as sibling names? They would be [name]Mac[/name] and [name]Emy[/name].
I think would assume McIntire and [name]Emerson[/name] would both be boys, possibly named after old family surnames - does that make any sense? However, [name]Mac[/name] and [name]Emy[/name] sound very nice together.
I think McIntire and [name]Emerson[/name] are good sibling names. They are both 3 syllable surnames with short and spunky nicknames. I think McIntire is kind of cool as a first name. I think it will age well too.
