McKenna

A lot of people don’t like the Mc and [name]Mac[/name] beginnings, especially with a second capital letter. What do you think of [name]McKenna[/name]? made-up looking or a legitimate name?

It’s legit, but it’s not substantial enough for an adult for me.

I like the name, but I’d never use it.

It’s a real name, it’s just not a girl’s name, in my mind. It doesn’t look made up, it looks like a surname (which it is).
It’s not that I dislike the Mc/[name]Mac[/name] sound in general, but since it’s the prefix meaning, “[name]Son[/name] of”, I dislike it on a girl.

I know a lot of people on nameberry usually don’t have many positive things to say on [name]McKenna[/name], but I really love this name despite the fact that it’s “trendy”. After all, it’s rising in popularity for a reason. With that being said I only like this name spelled [name]McKenna[/name] and really dislike [name]Makenna[/name], [name]Mckenna[/name], etc. All of the alternative spellings just ruin it for me.

Yeah, definitely legitimate. I like it more than most [name]Mac[/name] names, but I still wouldn’t use it, since the “Mc” means “son of”. Still a cute name, though.

My husband’s grandmother’s maiden name. I have nothing against it as a last name. I don’t particularly like it as a first name, and its rather unappealing as a girl’s name, [name]IMO[/name].

It is rising in popularity but I don’t like [name]Madison[/name]/[name]Mackenzie[/name]/[name]Addison[/name] type names so that’s a trend that can just pass me by.

It’s one of those names that I agree with all the reasons not to like it, but I really do, LOL. I’m not crazy about -son names, but I don’t mind mac- I suppose…

I don’t like any of the Mc/[name]Mac[/name] names as first names, and I really dislike [name]McKenna[/name]. All I can think of is ‘kennel’. Sorry.

This exactly, plus the trendiness
I prefer similar sounding [name]Kendra[/name]

It’s NMS but it’s nicer that most Mc- names, regardless of which gender you use it on.

I’m neutral on the name, it’s not a name I’d use but I wouldn’t cringe if I heard it. I prefer it spelled [name]Makenna[/name] though.

[name]Makena[/name]- means 'happy one" in Kikuyu a [name]Kenya[/name] dialect. It is one of my favourite names and it links back to my heritage.

I love [name]McKenna[/name]! My husband, however hates it. I don’t mind Mc/[name]Mac[/name] names and this is defenatly on the top of that list

There’s a nice way to use it if you like the sound.

The meaning of a name is critical, [name]IMO[/name]. So I don’t like the meaning of [name]McKenna[/name] but the meaning behind [name]Makena[/name] is sweet.

the -enna sounds very girly, but the “Mc” means “son of”. Maybe that’s why a lot of people go with the “[name]Makenna[/name]” spelling? [name]Kendel[/name] or [name]Kendra[/name] are similar in sound but look much weightier on a law school application or job resume. I can’t imagine taking an intern named [name]McKenna[/name] as seriously as her counterpart [name]Sarah[/name], you know? Why give your daughter an impediment she has to overcome?

I don’t care for [name]McKenna[/name], as I really hate the Mc and [name]Mac[/name] names.

Besides being trendy, which some people like, the extra capitalization in the name is bound to cause problems. I remember the [name]McKenzie[/name] I went to school with all through grade school always being upset that her name looked wrong ([name]Mckenzie[/name]) on her nametag, class T-shirt, etc.

If you are going to go with it, [name]Makena[/name] is nice. As pp mentioned above, it’s a legitimate African name.

I also would prefer [name]Makenna[/name] to [name]McKenna[/name]. Yes, it is a “made up” spelling, but at least it won’t be messed up on nametags.

[name]One[/name] of my best friends is named [name]McKenna[/name], so I am sort of biased. I don’t think it’s a name I’d use personally, but it’s so much prettier than [name]Mackenzie[/name] and [name]McKinley[/name] to me.

I’m not into Mc- names but this is my niece’s name. She’s 12 and it suits her. Her middle name is Fé, Spanish for “faith,” because part of her family is Hispanic and from [name]New[/name] Mexico.

The name definitely suits her and a lot of ppl comment that they like it. I call her M.C. [name]Kenna[/name] as a joke.

The “Mc” and “[name]Mac[/name]” prefixes mean “son of,” and it annoys me to no end seeing the McNames on a girl, especially when there’s no family connection. I’ve met a handful of McKennas and they were all horrid, so I have nothing positive to say about this name.

yep, sorry, I hate it to.
I know one man and one girl with the name and I don’t like it either way.
