We are either using [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
My issue is that I hate the nickname AJ and my husband is insistent on using it for [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Archer[/name_m] is the “safe” choice but I personally like [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] more. [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] doesn’t have a nickname and that’s why my husband prefers [name_m]Archer[/name_m].
Safe name everyone likes with nickname I hate or name I like a lot with no nickname?
I’m 31 weeks and we’ve been going at this since DD was born 15 months ago. I just want a name!
I much prefer [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. Maybe the nickname AJ could be a pet name that only your husband uses, but you could still call him [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and introduce him as [name_m]Archer[/name_m].
I like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] more, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. It seems like that is the name you really want, I would go for it! And I’m sure with time and a little creativity your husband will discovery some pet name to use if it matters that much to him.
I love [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]! Such a lovely sounding name, and [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a great combo. [name_u]James[/name_u] balances the light and lovely sounding [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] with a more classic familiar feel. And the no nickname problem doesn’t seem like it needs to be a problem to me. I have a 3 syllable name that does lend itself to nicknames quite easily, but I’ve gone by my full name all my life. And I love it. Theres always [name_u]Harley[/name_u] as a nickname I guess, tho that isn’t much different and no shorter then [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. [name_m]Hart[/name_m]?
Anyway, all the best with deciding
I like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] better. [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] is one of those names that feels undone to me. I would do [name_m]Harland[/name_m] before [name_m]Harlan[/name_m].
We have a HarlanRaymond who will be 10 months old at the end of the month! We will call him Hap periodically as a cute nickname, but pretty much stick with his given name. We love his name and get compliments all the time when people ask about it!
I love [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. It’s the kind of name everybody have heard about at some point in their life but probably they don’t know anyone else called [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. Furthermore, I think this name aged really well. I can picture a litte [name_u]Harley[/name_u] or even [name_m]Harry[/name_m], and a grown up [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. Plus, [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is really well compensate. [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] is uncommon while [name_u]James[/name_u] is traditional. 10/10
I prefer [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] as well! I think there’s lots of cute nickname possibilities with the name. What about: [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_m]Hart[/name_m], [name_m]Harry[/name_m], Harlo?
[name_m]Harlan[/name_m] is the name of the Nazi sympathizer who made the infamous anti-Semitic movies during the Holocaust. I’d go with [name_m]Archer[/name_m].
[name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is wonderful!
I also love the name [name_m]Archer[/name_m], but HATE [name_m]Archie[/name_m], which is why I will always vote against it in a first name spot. [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] isn’t bad, though
Both are great names, they have such a different feel to them.
I personally prefer archer [name_u]James[/name_u], but you seem to prefer [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I am not a fan of AJ at all, and if your husband will insist on calling him that that I would stick with [name_m]Harlan[/name_m].
I like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] slightly more, but I’m with you–I quite dislike AJ and wouldn’t want it used at all! On the one hand, I can sort of see Daddy using AJ and you getting to use [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or even [name_m]Archie[/name_m], but it seems like your whole family would follow suit with AJ after your husband, if I’m understanding correctly? I would hate that.
[name_m]Harlan[/name_m] is incredibly handsome, though, and I do love it, too (plus, he could be [name_u]Harley[/name_u] or [name_u]Lanny[/name_u], easily! Or even [name_u]Ari[/name_u].).
Could your husband be talked into [name_m]Archie[/name_m]? If you both use [name_m]Archer[/name_m]/[name_m]Archie[/name_m], I think that’d keep others from wanting to use AJ so much, but if your heart is set on [name_m]Harlan[/name_m], I totally understand.
I’m with @columbiacharm, though–[name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Archer[/name_m] are BOTH only two syllables–why do they need a nn? I mean, I can appreciate having one (mainly because I’m the only one of my siblings that doesn’t get one with some regularity), but neither [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m] really NEEDS one, and AJ, to me, is hardly a nn–it’s a set of initials. ([name_m]How[/name_m] boring!) Why use such a gorgeous name like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] if you’re going to reduce it two two letters? That being said, [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] isn’t without nicknames, though, so either have their bonuses. I personally prefer [name_m]Archer[/name_m], but it sounds like you prefer [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]. Is his only issue with [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] that it doesn’t seem to have nn potential?
I like [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. Good flow and strong sounding. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] is nice too, but I agree on it being the safer of the two.
