Ok, here is the other post in response to “can I steal my daughter’s name”. These are some names I like, but I have problems with them - or they are just NOT THE [name]ONE[/name]. I’m extremely stressed over the fact that I don’t even have a small list of possibilities for my due in [name]March[/name] baby. So if you could please, yet again, offer suggestions? Thanks
[name]Indira[/name]: name that My husband and I both like (but is it the one?), our main issue is that an antibullying website stated that [name]Indira[/name]'s get called “indian”. Who cares right? except we live in a heavily populated Native American area and wonder if this will cause her problems?
Saphirra - I like, DH is iffy
[name]Carys[/name] - Gaining in popularity (definite turn off) and we are iffy about it.
We’ve discussed [name]Merida[/name], [name]Milena[/name], [name]Solana[/name], Nevarra, [name]Nerissa[/name], [name]Sidonie[/name], [name]Catalina[/name], and Aderyn - all not “the name”
Again we chose Big sister [name]Geneva[/name] [name]Simone[/name] (3) Names because we felt [name]Geneva[/name] was unique but not YOUNEEK, unusual but not extreme, rare, and not heard of often.
Any chance you could be talked into [name]Milena[/name] after all, although you’ve considered it? It has the elegance of [name]Geneva[/name] and some good nickname possibilities, too ([name]Lena[/name], [name]Mila[/name]).
[name]Indira[/name] is gorgeous, and no, she will probably not be called “[name]Indian[/name]”.
I am so sorry for your dilemma and feelings of desperation. (Under the circumstances, I can see how re-using [name]Simone[/name] might cross your mind.)
[name]Indira[/name] is a very beautiful and distinctive name. I don’t know if she would experience any teasing. In my area, the term ‘[name]Indian[/name]’ would not have any negative connotations at all. From the names you are considering, I’d like to suggest… [name]Indira[/name] [name]Carys[/name].
[name]Geneva[/name] is a great name and you have great taste! My thoughts on these:
[name]Indira[/name]- I absolutely love this name and I wouldn’t worry about teasing, but I don’t like how it sounds with [name]Geneva[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names are three syllables with the same rhythm, -a ending, and intonated long E in the middle, and that doesn’t seem like the best combo. It’s not terrible and could definitely be fine, but you don’t seem to be totally in love with [name]Indira[/name] anyway, so I’d keep looking.
Saphirra- It’s nice, but I sometimes think it sounds too much like “Severe-a.” It also has the same matching sound problems as [name]Indira[/name].
[name]Carys[/name]- This is my favorite with [name]Geneva[/name]. It’s not at all popular- it’s never ranked in the top 1000. [name]Even[/name] if it is rising, a rise from out of the top 1000 to #920 or something really isn’t a big deal. Historically, [name]Geneva[/name] has been far more common, ranking every year from 1880 to 1995 and peaking at #109 in 1925. You will probably hear [name]Carys[/name] occasionally in hipster neighborhoods, but I definitely wouldn’t worry about your [name]Carys[/name] being one of 3 in the class. Plus, it’s a great name with a unique but appealing sound and a wonderful meaning!

Have you tried nymbler.com? You type in names you like and they make suggestions based on that. A typed in a few of the names you were considering and here’s what it came up with:
I really don’t want to compound your worry, but I must say… Am I the only one who sees irony in naming one daughter [name]Geneva[/name] and the other [name]Indira[/name]? [name]Geneva[/name] is gorgeous, [name]Geneva[/name] [name]Simone[/name] is even better, and you did a great job of naming your daughter. But one of the associations I have with [name]Geneva[/name] is the [name]Geneva[/name] Conventions, as in the human rights treaties. [name]Indira[/name] is pretty, sounds like “endearing” and means “beautiful” in Sanskrit. But my first and only association is [name]Indira[/name] Gandhi, a powerful and interesting lady, who is also known for some pretty serious human rights violations.
I met a little girl a while back with the name Sitara. It means “star” in Hindi. Does something like that appeal to you?
I also like the suggestions of [name]Celeste[/name] and [name]Renata[/name] and I love [name]Milena[/name]. I’d steer clear of another “place” name like [name]Vienna[/name] or [name]London[/name].
I think you shouldn’t worry too much about your child having somebody else with the same name in their class, cause it’s something you can’t ever count on; My parents named me [name]Rowan[/name] when it wasn’t even in the top 1000 and their was a girl in my class in high school with the same name, needless to say my mum was surprised.

[name]Odile[/name]: I think this is such a unique and beautiful name and has a lot of similar aspects as [name]Simone[/name]. [name]Solene[/name]: Also similar while being different from [name]Simone[/name]. This was the name of the daughter of my host family while I studied abroad in [name]France[/name]. I find it so classy and I have never heard it used in the US. [name]Cerelia[/name]: Graceful and melodic. Also, very uncommon. [name]Aurelia[/name]: A little more familiar, but still far from common. Would go so beautifully with [name]Geneva[/name]. [name]Renata[/name]: Others have mentioned this too and I think it’s great. Easy to pronounce, somewhat familiar, and an underused gem. [name]Ines[/name]: In a weird way, this sort of feels like a combination of [name]Indira[/name] and [name]Simone[/name], in style at least? Very sophisticated name [name]Melisande[/name] or [name]Corisande[/name]: A bit more out there, but it could satisfy your desire for something unique. [name]Ondine[/name]: Again, recognizable but very distinctive.
