Meanings: Uncommon and Powerful or Poetic and Breathtaking

Something like “Bringer of Victory”, “Of the West Wind” or meanings that do have this powerful vibe. If the meanings sound too medieval, ancient or fantasy-esque it is perfectly fine! I actually like those, too. I accept Hellenic and Roman theophoric (as long as non Christian or Jewish, since I do not belong to those religions; for example “glory of Hera” is fine, “I promised to YHWH” is not) meanings and also not necessarily good meanings, as long they are particular, powerful or uncommonly.

I came across Alexandra which means “defender of all people” or Edith which means “fighting for happiness”, how awesome is that?

So this has inspired me to look for names with meanings in a similar vein - names that mean poetic things without necessarily having a namesake. (Of course, preferably, if you look into the story behind the name, and it has a powerful namesake, the meaning should get even better.)

Anne for sure is nice and means grace, but Ceridwen means beautiful like a poem - this is the difference.

These type of names will probably take a seat in the middle spots of my combos, as for firsts I have a different style :notes::sunflower: But I wanted to hear some ideas.

This isn’t really for anything specific, just to pick your minds - any ideas?

I’ll need a second round on this but an immediate thought:

[name_u]William[/name_u] (and therefore Willamina/Willa/Wilma/Billie/Bill/Liam) means “resolute protector” from the old [name_m]German[/name_m], [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] = [name_m]Wil[/name_m] (Will or desire) and Helm (helmet or protection). [name_m]Can[/name_m] see why it continued as a popular choice for royalty (after [name_u]William[/name_u] the Conqueror). :muscle::prince::uk:

Actually dozens of names mean protector / guardian - and all the [name_m]Ed[/name_m] names (Edward, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_f]Edwina[/name_f], Edie) mean “Ead” or “fortunate” plus another meaning. So [name_u]Edward[/name_u] = wealthy/fortunate plus ward, meaning guardian. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] means wealthy protector (mund meaning protector from the Germanic for hand). More soon!

I thought it simply meant “wish of the may”. How does this come from “valkyrie maiden” ?

According to Llewellyn’s book of names, via @Luminen’s original post about her!
