Medieval Name revival?

An awesome fellow Nameberry member recommended this awesome site of Medieval names. http://www.infernaldreams.com/names/Europe/Medieval/England.htm

I cam across many names.

Here are my favorites that I would consider: Florrymonde,Merewinna, Eremina, Ermetrude, Egelina, Clarimond

For middle names ONLY: Helewisa, Hadwisa, [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f],[name_f]Leticia[/name_f] and many more… What do you think, could they be revived?
which names from that site would you consider reviving?

I’m very intrigued with Scholastica, it could be a great middle name…

I think the most usable name out of all of them is [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], as I’ve been seeing it crop up more and more. And also the sweet [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] Swire from Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] certainly changed views on it.

Scholastica is a GP of mine, and a [name_m]Saint[/name_m] to boot. I also love Helewisa, Florrymonde (Prefer it spelled Florimund), Merewinna, Eremina (Prefer it [name_f]Erminia[/name_f]), Ermetrude (Once Again, Prefer Ermentrud), and Clarimond.

Eremina is my favorite! So sweet!

I like your spellings too. What name did you like from the site?

I think so too! Plus, she could go by minnie or remmy - something more tangible for everyday use.

I liked Maysant, Aenor, Sabeline, Belsante, Malkyn, Idemay, Jocosa, [name_f]Meriall[/name_f], [name_f]Effemy[/name_f], Sibba, [name_f]Dulcia[/name_f], Mundy, and Elflet.

From your list I like Sabeline, I’ve been silently crushing over it, [name_u]Sabel[/name_u] almost become my name.

Thank you for the link! So many new possibilities to explore…

Your [name_f]Welcome[/name_f] but the props go to @Aym, she sent me looking to that direction and now I’m compulsively obsessed with look at all the names and their variant spellings.

Um, wow, so many of my favorites are on that list! And here I was thinking my style was eclectic. Awesome list, thanks for sharing!

Your welcome, after your done perusing it, you’ll have to tell us what your favorites are.

I’ve always liked [name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m], [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Roger[/name_m]. Like Ancelin, [name_m]Bayard[/name_m], [name_m]Ferrand[/name_m], Joscelin (have also seen Gosselin as a medieval variant on other sites) Lancelin, Lanslet, [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], Percheval, [name_m]Rainier[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], Vauquelin.
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] and [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] seem to be missing.
Rohesia is intriguing. Like Adeliz, [name_u]Allison[/name_u], Eschina, Elysant, [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emblyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gisella[/name_f], [name_f]Griselda[/name_f], [name_f]Melisent[/name_f], Millisandia, Millisenta, Richenza (although they got this wrong, it’s not a form of [name_m]Richard[/name_m]), Rosamunda.
Clarissent and a couple other Clarimond variants seem to be missing, as well as Richmay.
Later down the list I like [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f], [name_f]Dominica[/name_f], [name_f]Melusine[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], Diamanda, [name_f]Minna[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], Bencelina, [name_f]Leda[/name_f], [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], Lefleda, Godeleva, Aluinnia, Quenilda (also wrong, it means “queen gift” and they forgot Queniva & Quenyeve), [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f], [name_f]Selina[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], Peronelle, Pavia, [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], Lecelina, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Claribel[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], [name_f]Basilia[/name_f], Barbetta, [name_f]Isolda[/name_f], [name_f]Yseult[/name_f], [name_f]Vanora[/name_f] (Jenivera and Jenavara are missing from the [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] section but these might have been from other times), [name_f]Brigida[/name_f], Anchoret, [name_f]Teffan[/name_f], Teffania, [name_f]Teffany[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f], Sabelina (not actually connected to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], simply “sable”), [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], Evelune, [name_f]Ninette[/name_f]
Still looking for Garsinda/Garsende/Gersende, Wendolina, Zibellina. I see Maxencia but not Maxentia, [name_f]Madelina[/name_f] but not [name_f]Madelena[/name_f].

I’d totally use [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], Clarimond, Merewinna, [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and Ismeria.

I noticed some things off the list too, but still a great and seemingly extensive list to relish, take in to absorb. You’ve got some great picks.

Hey! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you’ve been enjoying the link. It really is a treasure trove. I am surprised at how unique (to today’s ears) but actually accessible many of the names are. I guess this probably has a lot to do with them being “root” names to many used today.

Can you imagine living in a time when many of these names were the norm? Opened up my name world.
