Melanie - dull or full of life?

[name_f]Melanie[/name_f] has been a long-term favorite of mine, but one that I am a bit weary of using simply because she feels so tired in some circles (and because I’m unsure of her flow with [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]). What are your thoughts on [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]?

Part of the reason I am so fond of her is because my name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and I was named after the character in Gone With the Wind. I thought that could be a fun theme to continue. I know [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Tara[/name_f] are also viable option (as well as [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] for a boy), but for some reason [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] seems to most accessible. Plus, [name_f]Melly[/name_f] is cute for a toddler.

What are your thought on [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]? / What sounds best as a sibset to you: [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] + [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] / [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] + [name_f]Tara[/name_f] / [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] + [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]?

We aren’t too fond of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

[name_f]Melanie[/name_f], to me, fits in with the [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]-[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] family. Some like them for their retro feel (those were names that many current moms grew up with), but they’re not really my style. I like [name_f]Melody[/name_f], however.

It’s ok. [name_f]Melly[/name_f] is a cute NN though. If you love it then I would use it. It’s not like it is horrible or anything

[name_m]Rhett[/name_m] is adorable with [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f].

What about other GWTW names?

[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
Carreen
[name_f]Lorena[/name_f] (it was [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s middle name)
[name_f]India[/name_f]

[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] - unisex name (it was a surname in the movie)

[name_u]Rafe[/name_u]
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]

While [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] is not really my style, I do think it is a lovely name- it has a wonderfully luscious sound ([name_f]Melaina[/name_f] is lovely too). In regards to sibsets, I do think [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] sound a little matchy/ tongue twisty. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] sounds great, as do [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Tara[/name_f], and just a suggestion (you might not like it), but I always thought O’[name_f]Hara[/name_f] was a lovely name. [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] does sound the nicest with [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] though, probably because of the matching soft sounds and the three syllables, despite the half rhyme. I think the theme is lovely- [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is absolutely stunning. Good luck :).
Suggestions:
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]

[name_f]Melanie[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous! I may be totally biased though, given that I’m kind of obsessed with GWTW. It’s soft and gentle but strong and substantial at the same time. [name_f]Melly[/name_f] is a sweet nickname. The character is one of the sweetest and most loving I’ve ever encountered- she would be a great namesake. I’m not a fan of naming siblings after famous couples so not sure how I feel about it for a parent and child, but I do of course love the idea of using a GWTW name. M

Personally I love [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], both the name and character, but here are other character names from the novel:

[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] ([name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s first name)
[name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (Mrs [name_u]Meade[/name_u])
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]/[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (Aunt Pittypat)
[name_f]Honey[/name_f]
[name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] (Merriwether)
[name_f]Fanny[/name_f] (Elsing)
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (Mrs Tarleton)

Names of some actors from the movie- many are rather dated so I haven’t included them:
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u]/[name_u]Leigh[/name_u]- [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f] de Havilland)- [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_m]Keyes[/name_m])- [name_f]Suellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ann[/name_f] ([name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Rutherford[/name_m])- Carreen
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] ([name_f]Hattie[/name_f] McDaniel)- Mammy
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] ([name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] Crews)- Aunt Pittypat
[name_f]Cammie[/name_f] ([name_f]Cammie[/name_f] [name_m]King[/name_m])- [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]

[name_u]Sydney[/name_u] ([name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_u]Howard[/name_u])- wrote the screenplay

You could also use [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f], or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m].

I’ve made a complete list of all the characters actually, including minor ones, so feel free to PM me if you’d like to see it for more inspiration.

Full of live! I like [name_f]Melanie[/name_f].

I agree–full of life! [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] are a bit mismatched to me, though–[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] seems quite a bit more exotic/unique, while [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] is beautiful but more traditional. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] are a fabulous sibset. [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] would be wonderful!

go for it. think it is great

I adore [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]!! Definitely a [name_m]French[/name_m] classic. I think of [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] being very smart, charismatic, enjoys the outdoors/ galleries, outgoing, positive, cute, fun, friendly, uber cool & a little bit flirty in a lovely warm way.
