I love [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] but if [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is still your top girls name atm, Iād probably go with one of the others, since [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] kind of rhyme. It is beautiful and does fit the list though
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f] is sweet and has a nice meaning (could use the nickname Honey!!)
[name_f]Melody[/name_f] is melodic, flowing, bold and pretty and the one I voted for. It fits your list and holds its own

I see where youāre coming from with the short list but I hope they all can stay on your long list. Itās hard a one. I was initially drawn to Melanie because she fits in so well with the range of styles on your list. I can see her alongside those time capsule names and the ones that are well-used by parents today. She also sounds very sweet.
Then I noticed the similarity to a lot of other names on your list with two or three syllables ending in the āeeā sound. The three syllables are the main ones of concern because they all have the same rhythm. So that swayed me over to Melissa which was already very close behind. I love that she has history. That makes her feel very versatile. She also has some really fun nicknames like Missy and Misty.
I think Melody came in last for me because rightly of wrongly she feels more tied to modern naming trends. She feels cohesive with some of your list but feels mismatched with names like Jennifer and Katherine.

This was hard, they are all pretty and fit the list, butā¦I have a cousin named [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] who is older than me, and as a kid, she was everything I ever wanted to be So Iām biased, but I went with [name_f]Melissa[/name_f].

I have been have the āMelody or Melanieā debate in my head a lot lately too, actually. I think Virgin [name_u]River[/name_u] made me fall in love with the idea of a little [name_u]Mel[/name_u].
Ultimately, I decided [name_f]Melody[/name_f] fits my list best. I think [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] fits yours best.
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f] is overused in the 70s & 80s, Iād say [name_f]Melanie[/name_f].
