We really struggle to find boys names we like, but I just noticed [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] and I think I like it… it’s somehow quite charming… however, I don’t know any little people with this name.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what the general consensus on [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] is?? Yes…? No…? Handsome…? Stylish…? Tacky…? Too American?
Is it usable? What kind of names would you pair it with?
I do not have anything against place names but [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] is fully a city name to me. Like I would not consider Massachusetts as a person’s name, it is fully a state name.
Names I feel have a similar feel to [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], but I personally feel are names, are [name_m]Austin[/name_m] and [name_u]Cody[/name_u].
I think [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]'s usability completely depends on where you live. As a native of the American South, I don’t think [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] is a good name for a person. The city has its merits, but it’s enjoyed a notorious reputation for crime for some time now. Probably not an issue in Australia, but it’s an association that I have.
That makes sense Like I feel that [name_u]London[/name_u] is weird as a name, but [name_f]India[/name_f] is totally fine. A bit personally subjective perhaps… Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
That’s a valid point. I love the meaning of [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], and as we live where we do, I don’t think there would be that negative connotation or overtone… but it’s definitely worth keeping in mind. Thanks!
I don’t mind it as a name, and I personally think of the Egyptian [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] more than the American [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] as a first association, which makes it more charming and historical to me. While I personally prefer it on a girl, it works for both.
I think it’s cute, but my 8 year old has a girl in his class with that name. However I do have a daughter named [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] so… haha just go with what you love!
I wouldn’t use it because I live very close to the actual city and my aunt lived there for several years. I also don’t like most place names. those things obviously don’t apply to you, so I would say use it if you like it. it’s no different than people using [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_u]Paris[/name_u] or [name_u]Sydney[/name_u].
