Alright, my husband is set on [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] - and I like it very much but I think I’d like a few alts in case we chicken out once the baby’s here. Because seriously, [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] is one helluva name to carry off.
My name list is here Interesting Finds - Boys | Nameberry & I’d love some suggestions! We like ‘edgy’ ones.
DH wants to use [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle, it’s a family name and it’s important to him.
[name_u]Mercury[/name_u] I think is awesome and I love that it gives us the nature element to go with sisters middles, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] & [name_f]Coral[/name_f]. But I’m open to a different naturey MN.
I particularly like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] (especially as we’ve been on an Xfiles kick this pregnancy) but not entirely sure if it works well up front in a combo, usually I like it more as a MN… And it for sure doesn’t work well as a middle beside [name_u]James[/name_u].
DH likes [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] but it isn’t great with our surname. He also likes Ender, [name_m]Odin[/name_m] & [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], and a bunch more that are either really weird or really epic.
Suggestions? I’m due [name_f]April[/name_f] 8th, I’ll be full term [name_u]March[/name_u] 18th & I have had an early baby before so I’m trying to be ready early.
[i]ETA - What do you think of:
Fox Mercury James
Atlas Mercury James (too similar to only cousin on my side, Alex?)
Ender Mercury James (too similar to Indira?)
I love ends-in-n names and would consider Rohan/Ronan or Orson/Orion/Odin but I think they collide with our surname which starts with an N sound (but not the letter N)… also DH has 2 young nephews both with ends-in-N names.[/i]
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] is a big name! My tongue trips over it when I say it with Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f] (your girls have beautiful names!). I think Ender, [name_m]Odin[/name_m], and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] are great. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] probably is my fave of the three (four).
From you list:
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and…
From your list my favourites are Ender, [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. I would also suggest [name_m]Ridge[/name_m] (I like the nature vibe.)
I love [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds great. [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] is maybe a little too big of a name for me personally. I also like [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] (although I never know whether to say this like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or as “Row-han,” so I prefer [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]) and [name_m]Evander[/name_m].
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] has the best flow and most compatibility with your daughters’ names. It equals their exotic feel without matching, and doesn’t share a first initial. From the way you talk about it, it seems to be your steady favorite: very important. However, I agree that it is a big name to carry off… ultimately a decision that will be made once you see your little boy <3
Competing valiantly for first place is Fox. I love the name Fox. It’s handsome, not popular, but easily integrated via similarity to Max. I think it goes well with Mercury James, and also doesn’t share an initial with your daughters. It is the perfect choice if you and your husband decide Osiris is too much. Bias: I love The X-Files.
Runners-up:
Atlas Mercury James – I like it. It has appeal. Offbeat, but strong. It does bother me that he and Azula would share an initial, but that’s definitely not a deal-breaker. There is a similarity to Alex, but enough difference for comfort.
Ender strongly resembles Indira. There are just too many of the same sounds. Evander would be a better choice, perhaps with the nickname of Ender.
[name_u]Rohan[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is great! I also like [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. I like the idea of [name_m]Osiris[/name_m], but [name_u]Orion[/name_u] might be more wearable?
Thanks for all the input so far (especially @Chrisco for your detailed response… I’m so in love with 1990s David Dechovney).
With both our kids we went to the hospital with a name combo already chosen so I guess I’m just feeling weird that I haven’t 100% connected/decided on one. I think my husband feels the same (in that he’d like to have a name set going in to labour) although really all his faves are pretty wild so he is not hesitant about Osiris like I am. He’s set, I’m not, it’s weird.
Going to make a few combos and mull them over.
Definitely still hoping for more suggestions & feedback.
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] does have a lovely flow and goes well with your girls’ names. I do think the name is a bit too grand for my own personal taste, but at the end of the day it only matters what you’re comfortable with using. I must say though, my personal favorite is [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]! [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is so handsome and deserves to be used in the first name spot more than it is (and I think it’s a sweet nod to watching X-Files together throughout this pregnancy). If it’s a matter of how wearable the name is, I definitely think [name_m]Fox[/name_m] wins in that department over [name_m]Osiris[/name_m].
As for [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and Ender: [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] together just sounds too mythological (somehow [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] doesn’t, maybe because [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] is more unfamiliar?) and Ender is very handsome, but not doable with [name_f]Indira[/name_f].
After searching through your name list, I really love the thought of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] (is [name_m]Fox[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Felix[/name_m] too much of a stretch?)
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] goes fantastically with your girls names and has a great flow. [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is also good, but it doesn’t have the same feel as Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f]. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is a little close to [name_u]Alex[/name_u] for me, and I have to agree that Ender is too similar to [name_f]Indira[/name_f].
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is great but my first thought was that it’s very mythological. Maybe a little too myth-heavy? I love [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], though because [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] reminds me first of the book of maps and second of the mythological character. Those are my top two choices because [name_m]Fox[/name_m] just doesn’t sound quite as exotic as your daughters’ names and Ender is too close to [name_f]Indira[/name_f].
The [name_u]Alex[/name_u]/[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] closeness is fine, imo because they’re not siblings and the names are not THAT close.
I love [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. My cousin recently named her baby [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and I actually think it works well as a first name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] my conservative grandparents liked it!
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is nice. But when I first read the two names the first name I thought of was “[name_m]Cannon[/name_m]”. [name_m]Cannon[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. Think about it.
i love your girls’ names! personally i feel like mercury is a bit much, but i guess it’s ok in the middle spot.
from your list i like:
cedar
jasper
sage
cedar orion james
jasper atlas james
sage apollo james
@bowtiful- I don’t think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is too much if a stretch but DH doesn’t care for [name_m]Felix[/name_m]… guess its not weird enough for him! Haha. I think [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] are BOTH very mythological sounding with [name_u]Mercury[/name_u], which has been one of my main hesitations… but most of DH’s faves are either myth based or fantasy/sci-fi based so that is going to be very hard to get away from. Thank you so much for the input.
@lovemysweeties- DH will not budge on using [name_u]James[/name_u] (which I quite dislike actually). It is really important to him so I am going along with it, otherwise I love [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] as a MN combo.
@dragon_flame abd @aread- thanks. [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] does have a similar feel/sound/cadence to the girls names, and it is satisfying that they would all start with a vowel but I just worry that it might be a little over the top for me! I totally agree with Ender/[name_f]Indira[/name_f]. And the similarity with [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] & [name_u]Alex[/name_u] does bother me a bit. I know they are just cousins but they live right up the street so we see each other at least once a week, and [name_u]Alex[/name_u] is only a year and a half so they will be very close in age.
@imaginary_mary- I think [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is my current fave, but it’s only been for like a day and I don’t now how DH feels about it. I told him I’m having second thoughts about [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] yesterday and he is super dissapointed.
@ramonadblack- yes, it totally is! My frontrunner combo for a boy when we were pregnant with [name_f]Indira[/name_f] was [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Erickson[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. But life, y’know?
@tcrash21- [name_m]Cannon[/name_m]? Haha i’ll definitely think about it. I used to really love [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] but we’re not religious. Never considered [name_m]Cannon[/name_m] but ends-in-n names tend to be awkward with our surname.
@chelle- I like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] too! Not one of DH’s faves though. He never really connected with the chronicles. & @jonix I like [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] a lot, this kid kicks so much for a while I seriously thought there were two babies in there so I love the fleet-footed meaning abd the quicksilver, and I am a bit of an astronomy nerd so I love the planetary connection… up front it’s probably even weirder than [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] but I think it’s right for this baby as a middle name. I love the nature ones, especially [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_f]Jade[/name_f] but DH likes all those better for a girl.
