My vote went to [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] sounds like a Catholic nun to me (sorry!) and [name_f]May[/name_f] is pretty but just not very memorable in comparison to [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]. Might I suggest [name_f]Mamie[/name_f]… It’s a nn for [name_f]Mary[/name_f], sounds very like [name_f]May[/name_f], is unexpected and modern to my ear and I love [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

[name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous! [name_f]May[/name_f] is ahead by a mile for me  Best of luck!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]!

[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] definitely I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] but I agree [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] reminds me too much of a nun unless that’s what you were going for

I think [name_f]May[/name_f] sounds better with [name_f]Frances[/name_f] than with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]. [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is elegant and sweet.

Thankyou all for your replies - I was hoping for a clear winner but at least there isn’t a clear loser

I am trying to fit my family pattern which is a religious name and a family name hence the fn+mn combos that I listed. [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful but is actually my grandmothers first + last name (francis actually) so it would be a little strange in my family.

I’m actually ok with the nun problem - my family have quite the biblical set anyway and as I listed in another post I already have a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. I’m Australian and we don’t have the same history of calling a girl mary … and then using the second name to call by. Here most Catholic girls in the past had [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as their second name not the first.

I have never met a [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] so I’m not sure of pronunciation, it might be a good nn but I do want the religious association. Thanks for the suggestion though.

There is a very good chance that if I use [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] she would be called [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] a lot of the time, I think [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] would get shortened to [name_m]Merc[/name_m] (with a soft c)

I was a little worried that [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] may be considered trashy? I thought of the poll ‘mercy upper or lower class?’ LOL. There is a famous family here (for a lot of wrong reasons) with a daughter named [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f], a name I would otherwise have loved but completely unusable now. What do you think?

Thanks for all of your help… I have lots of time to think but I want to start selling my hubby on my favourite now! (he’s leaning towards [name_f]Mary[/name_f]).

I voted for [name_f]May[/name_f]. I think [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] would be excellent choices.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Mercia? (Unless you live near that area)

[name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is breathtaking. : )

1 [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - this is one of my favourite combos. It’s simplicity and sweetness are just lovely!
2 [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
3 [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for sure! I think you could opt to call [name_f]Mary[/name_f] by the nicknames [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]! My great grandmother was a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] that was called [name_f]May[/name_f], my grandmother is also [name_f]Mary[/name_f] so I think they started the [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f] thing once she had her so to avoid household confusion! I think that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is so classic that plenty of nicknames that aren’t so intuitive can work well- [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisy[/name_f], Mazzy, ect.

I think [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is a beautiful and underused name. I would love to meet one!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is very plain and [name_f]May[/name_f] is beautiful but feels incomplete to me.

I am sooooo in love with [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! Perfect name. I like the other two names as well though.

I love the name [name_f]May[/name_f]. It is refreshing, retro, and pretty. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is forever ruined for me because that nincompoop [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] used it.
